Hi, I am planning on dropping out of York. What do I need to do? Also do I get any money back?

Hi I am just wondering, if I applied for part time osap and already received my funding certificate for my s1 and s2 course, would I still be allowed to drop my s2 course and how would I do this? Do I fill in a change request form to the Student Financial Services office? Thanks in advance!

Yes. Drop the course in REM, then submit a change request form. You can submit your change request form online via your OAN account, or you can drop it off at Student Financial Services.

Hi just need some advice/opinion... I am in computer science so I'm not eligible to take an assessed grade (the classes are only electives). I'm transferring to another school in Sept and they need my final transcript by Aug 10 but the remediation period goes past Aug 10. I asked York admissions to make an exception for me and the other school to extend the deadline but neither will budge. If I drop both classes, will OSAP penalize me? Do you have any suggestions on what I can do?

The best decision would be to drop the courses so your admission to the new university is not delayed. It could affect your OSAP yes, you should call Student Financial Services and find out for sure.

Hi guys, I was just wondering if we could still drop courses or is it too late

It’s not too late! The last day to drop a full-year 2017-2018 (Y) or Winter 2018 (W) course without receiving a grade is December 31, 2018.

When do students usually drop out of classes? Im trying to enroll into a class but its full...

For the summer it will be rare now because there isn’t much being offered, but check after classes have started, that’s usually when students change their mind about courses when they go to the first class.

Two questions.. and I’m pretty sure one of them has been kind of answered before so sorry for the repetition but 1)do I drop my courses before telling the school I want to be part time or do I wait until after they make me part time? 2)I have an outstanding balance still on my student account and I was worried that if I switch to part time before osap sends me money then they will take away the little money they were going to send me that was going to cover (c)

(C) of the rest of my tuition so I can get all my refunds that are currently just sitting in there... also I’m in the process of trying to find a job so I currently don’t have one so I’m scared that if I go part time osap will make me pay up more than I have for refunds?? Idk I’m just so scared of what osap is going to say and if u guys have any experience or knowledge from others that would really help me rn :( I went from being ft &dropping 2courses to wanting to be pt so idk

Technically you should drop the courses to become part time (as well as inform the Registrar’s Office), and ideally before you get charged for Winter courses - that is drop Winter courses by/before Jan 10, 2018.

That is a possibility, in that case I would wait until Jan 10 I suppose. The other problem though is that you could be put in an overpayment situation where OSAP has paid your outstanding balance and now you owe them money. I would recommend speaking to Student Financial Services, they can better guide you on this because we have never switched to part time or been part time students.

I’m not sure who to ask at school so here it goes.. I’m in first year and have already had to drop two courses making my first term part time and second term full time. Osap has been very nice and has been just readjusting my funding each time so far but I’m beginning to change my mind once again(I know super annoying) and I want to change over from full to part time so that next term I will be part time... but I’m not sure how to go about this and how osap would take this..(c)

© apart of me really wants to because I live with just my mom and I want a job to support her and myself better and so I can pay back osap faster and not have to rely solely on osap funds but another part of me wants to stick through and then do part time in second year.. so I guess really I’m looking for both advice and just how to do this or if u guys don’t know then at least who to talk to? I’m just really scared osap is going to say no due to the amounts of times a change my mind..

Unfortunately since none of us have ever been part-time students, we don’t really have specific advice to the situation, SFS is your best guidance in terms of finances and your faculty office for academics. However, as far as I know, as long you are upfront and report all your changes, OSAP will not penalize you for switching to part-time status.

I am extremely confused about OSAP as this is my first time ever using it... I dropped courses like twice now and both times they just recalculated my funding but a lot of people are telling me to make sure I’m not in over payment and I also see u guys talking about it as well.... wth is overpayment and how would I even know if that applies to me?! I never received anything saying I owe them money I just got a message saying they recalculated everything for this year....

An overpayment is when you receive more OSAP funding than you should have based on your latest course load and most updated income information. 

They’ll send you a letter if you are in overpayment. If they can adjust your funding by recalculating (such as reducing your winter funding if you dropped a fall course), generally there isn’t an overpayment, but may still be.
