Not so much Climate Change , but changing the climate.  There is a difference.

Developer Dranoff Properties has repaid a $3 million loan, with $1.28 million in interest, on the Victor Lofts luxury apartment building on the Camden waterfront, the Delaware River Port Authority...

Dranoff Properties has repaid a $3 million loan it borrowed to convert/reconstruct an old building on the Camden waterfront in New Jersey. The money was lent to Dranoff in 2003 by the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) to convert the building into ‘luxury’ apartments. The loan was a part of the DRPA’s ‘economic development’ spending program which provided millions of dollars to projects across the area. This project ultimately concludes the DRPA’s involvement in the city’s economic development. They will continue to focus on transportation services such as bridges and PATCO. The loan was said to have been paid off in time and in full. A related building not far from the new Victor Apartments is awaiting its own renovations, but still requires environmental cleanup. No additional finances have been provided for this project at this time.

I chose this article because I attend school in Camden, and I appreciate the development I have seen the city going through at my time there. I constantly walk past the Victor Apartments on my way to Rutgers, and learning more about its development is interesting to me. Additionally, learning a bit about the Victor’s past is also enlightening. In the past, when I was younger, any time my parents and I would venture into Philadelphia, my parents would say, ‘look, there’s Nipper’, or something to that effect. At the very least, the sight of the small, iconic dog on the top of the building was interesting, and now I understand the significance of its history, too.

This article addresses a variety of concepts we have discussed in class so far-- from what happens to buildings after companies move out of them, to how businesses and buildings affect communities and their economies. From RCA to General Electric, then to unoccupied, the Victor reflects just what happens when buildings stop being used. Not only do they become somewhat of an eyesore to the city and it’s community, but when a business/company leaves, it affects the city’s image and value as well. When the automotive industry moved out of Detroit, with it went blue collar jobs and people were left to find jobs in which they did not require a large skill set. Additionally in Detroit, small businesses suffered from the loss of the industry and the loss of people.

Now the Victor now not only provides a living space for residents, but also provides some jobs as well.

Dystopia Rising character plans and stuff I need to get/make

Profession: Pugilist

Kings Court pugilist. Listens to a lot of punk, gets into fist fights with people for fun and gets them a drink later. May have acquired that drink via questionable means. Has a problem with authority figures on a philosophical level. He might work along side them, but he refuses to take orders from them.

Costume ideas: Cobbled-together and stitched-together cowl, leather jacket, jeans, fingerless gloves with thin fingered gloves underneath and hand wrappings overtop. Ripped gauze and bandannas all about. Gas mask with metal grate covered eyes. Mismatching boots. Basic light armor made from hammered out lumps of metal and hardware. Bracer made out of a metal chain coiled tightly around his right forearm. Necklace with an insignia made out of junk.

Costume colors: Rust, dark grey/faded black, brown

Name: Rasa

Strain: Semper Mort

Profession: Jones

Woke up less than a year ago by a Baywalker by the name of Abe who was studying old cryogenic facilities. Abe managed to give the new”born” a very basic education in how to speak and protect one’s self. He said the phrase “Tabula Rasa” around the newly awakened Semper Mort and when asked if that was the Semper’s name, he simply laughed and said “It might as well be.” Abe later explained that Rasa once was of the race of people that created these ruins, even though he cannot remember it. Raiders ended up driving the two apart and forcing them to flee before Rasa could learn much more. Now, Rasa wanders in search of a home and those who can teach him about this dangerous world. Maybe he’ll even learn how to find out who he was and why he was in those ruins.

Costume ideas: Banged-up rifle (probably to be made out of a Nerf Slingfire). Weathered and torn cargo pants with very loosely stitched patches. Shredded turtleneck and stained undershirt. Ragged and dirty long shawl/short cloak. Hardware store knee pads, military surplus boots. Harness with pouches made out of the straps from a torn up backpack. Very little in the way of armor, if any.
