prompt: im sorry to bother you but my son thinks youre famous and he wants your autograph
I donât have an ounce of regret for what I just put James through.Â
on AO3
âProve it.âÂ
âI absolutely will.âÂ
âHow about the red-head at the bar?â Sirius smirked over his glass. âShe seems like your type.â
Jamesâ blurred vision traveled off his friendâs face and over to where a woman with long red hair waited for the bartender. Her hair glinted a dark red under the low light of the pub, her curved figure cast in shadow as she leaned her short frame against the counter. James didnât mean to be so poetic while he observed her, but he often waxed lyrical when there was a bit of alcohol in his veins.Â
ââm telling you mate, completely foolproof.â Jamesâ words slurred together. He pushed his glasses up clumsily by placing his fingers right on the lens, âBig brain, itâs all up here.âÂ
Siriusâ laughter ruminated loudly through the bar, James smiled, he was so funny while tipsy. Sirius hadnât stopped laughing all night. He must really be hilarious this evening.Â
âOff you go then,â Sirius waved his hand toward the bar.Â
James saluted Sirius, knocking his glasses slightly askew before he stood up from his seat at the booth. He tripped a little but caught himself on the table. Sirius laughed again, which likely meant he had tied Jamesâ shoelaces together. But when James ducked his head to look at his trainers, he found everything in working order, which was odd because James was quite clever on his feet. Probably just too excited to prove Sirius wrong. That always got him in a good mood.Â
Slowly, he righted himself and began his trek up to the red-headed woman. He turned his head back to Sirius and sent him a wink as he approached her. Sirius looked like that time they saw a long line of motorbikes parade down the street, grey eyes alight.
âExcuse me.âÂ
The woman turned around, her red hair shuffled around her shoulders. The movement caused Jamesâ jaw to hit the ground. She was, wow, there wasnât exactly a way to describe her at the moment. The combination of red hair, freckles, green eyes, and her face. Yeah, too much for him. Then, as if she knew it would do him in, she quirked an eyebrow at him, enhancing her features even more. While Jamesâ brain short-circuited, she said nothing, her eyes expectant.Â
Oh, right, James came here to chat her up. He was, for a moment, slightly distracted by her, but luckily he had a charming personality and a winning pick up line.Â
âHi. Sorry to be a bother. But my son thinks youâre famous, and he wants your autograph.â James let the words drop out of his smirk slowly.Â
âYour son?â Her brow shot up higher on her face.Â
âMmm, that lil tot over there.â James pointed at Sirius, who waved back at them with pursed lips. James thought he did a wonderful job, such a good wingman, his best friend.
The woman laughed out loud when Sirius blew a kiss, James took this as a good sign, he told Sirius this would work.Â
âHe has your hair,â The woman remarked. Her grin blinded him. It covered half her face and reached both eyes.
âIf heâs got any luck, itâll look like mine when heâs older.â James ran his hands through his hair, fluffing it up a bit for effect.
The woman only gave a snorted laugh in response. James thought this could be his best pick up line yet. Sirius would be so annoyed.
âAlright, have a pen on you?â She held out her hand expectedly.Â
James nodded, of course he had a pen. He reached into his pocket but found nothing. Then the next pocket, nothing, nothing. He patted his chest and legs, no pen. He looked back at her hand, then her face. She smiled mischievously at him.Â
She clicked her tongue, âAwe, tough luck mate.âÂ
She took a swig from her glass and moved to step around him. James felt rather confused. At what point had she gotten her drink?
James sidestepped quickly, his stomach flipped as he intercepted her. âWait, do you have a pen?â
She shook her head and sent him an exaggerated frown. âNo, canât keep one on me. Kept running out of ink, too many autographs.â
âCan I at least get your name?â James asked quickly, before the whole thing could go to shit.
Her eyebrow shot up mercilessly. âYour son didnât mention my name? Must not be a genuine fan then. Shame.â
âNo! No he is.â James waved his hands in front of her, trying to keep her with him a moment longer.
âSirius!â James yelled across the bar frantically. âWhat did you say her name was?â
Sirius, the ever supportive best friend, winked. âElevendork.â
James thought the name strange, but from the way the woman responded it seemed to be the right one. Her eyes lit up with a small smirk, âAlways nice to meet my adoring fans.â
She stepped to the side to walk around James and paused a moment to pat his arm before she left. James twisted around quickly to ensure Sirius caught the whole interaction.
Sirius had in fact watched the entire event and gave James a standing ovation for his performance. James indulged him with a slow and careful bow, due to his slight inebriation, before he headed back to their booth. They sat down together, Siriusâ eyes full of mirth.Â
âAnd you said it couldnât be done.â
âThatâll be the last time I bet against you. Cheers.â Sirius said as he passed James his glass.
âElevendork? That her stage name?â James wondered.
James, laying on the floor in Siriusâ shirt and Lilyâs leggings, drinking fire whiskey through a silly straw, drunk and having a heart to heart with a mop: Heâs just⊠heâs so inspiring and his voice is so⊠so soothing and he means⊠he means SO much to meâŠ
Mermaid turned temporary human stood before the newly made Admiral in bewilderment. Never in the time that she had known him had she seen him in such a state of personality and demeanor.
But she didnât shy from him as she felt his arms envelope her and pull her into a drunken kiss. Arielâs fingers wrapped around the lapel of his coat as the salt stained wind blows through her hair, wafting the distinct smell of the ocean around them while the smell of rum touches her lips. A low mewl slipped from her, a noise never pulled from her before. Something that she could not put a word to stirred inside her, it burned like a low flame. Eyes fluttered shut as she tasted the drink upon his lips, excitement of the kiss very nearly made her feel like a giddy, drunken thing as it deepened, as she felt  his tongue momentarily against her own where the taste of liquor swarmed her senses.
Ariel pulled from the kiss abruptly, uncertain about how she felt with him when liquor tainted the kiss, â Youâve been drinkingâŠI can taste it. â @mcrmaidscales
Having been promoted to the rank of Admiral by Lord Cutler Beckett, James had been treated to an impromptu celebration by his lieutenants and Captains. It was an afternoon of accolades and merriment. He hadn't meant to leave Ariel hanging, and it certainly hadn't been like him to show up late to one of their engagements, so that probably concerned her right from the get-go.
Then to follow things up, that had been how he had greeted her. A simple " Hello, Princess." and attacked her in an aggressive, yet playful kiss. Arms entwined around the red-head and drawing her in tight against his chest as they kissed. And he held her there like that, while giving her quite the drunken passionate kiss. Letting her taste the rum on his tongue as it slipped into the fray.
Now up until this point, he had been nothing but a gentleman toward her and never so grabby, so it was safe to say this liquor had quite the sway on him.
Finally, she drew back, glossy green looking into cerulean blue. "Only a little. You look beautiful with or without fins, you know. " Then a drunken laugh. " I suppose that was rather forward of me.. "
