Invitation
A wedding invitation came in the mail. Susan and Derek were excited for it.
Derek: Mark is getting married!
Susan: That’s so great!
Derek opened up the invite and read it.
Derek:...it’s a dry wedding.
Susan was speechless.
Derek:....Well....he was a good friend. I’ll miss him.
Susan: It’s a shame.
*at the end of a rather pleasant phone call with the bride whose wedding I'm DJing this weekend*
"Okay, so that all sounds good! Is there anything else you want to talk about before we go?"
"Nope, I think you've got it covered! Oh, but one more thing."
"Yeah?"
"It's going to be a dry wedding. No alcohol."
"Ah! Ahaha ... thanks ... that - that's good to know ..."
*hangs up*
*opens window*
*sets self on fire*
*jumps into dumpster*
Why Am I Having a Dry Wedding?
I have two reasons.
1.) Half of my guests are either devout Christians, children under the age of 21, or recovering alcoholics. As the bride, I am also not going to drink (for various reasons that are personal).
2.) I am on a budget but I still want to have a "dream wedding" (dream dress, dream shoes, dream venue, dream flowers, etc.). I have no other choice but to cut things that don't matter to my dream wedding. Fancy invites have been cut and.... alcohol has been cut.
If alcohol is a BIG part of having fun at YOUR dream wedding then GOOD FOR YOU! Just because I am having a dry wedding DOES NOT MEAN I judge people who drink. It DOES NOT MEAN I don't want to make my friends who drink happy.
It means that I would hope my friends who drink would be understanding and would only want to come to my wedding because they love me and not because of the booze. It means that most of my guests won't be drinking anyway; that I won't be drinking.
It means that dry weddings can be fun and that some people don't need alcohol to dance or have a good time.
I am writing this post because I have only found NEGATIVE posts on dry weddings. Hell, even the popular OffBeat Bride has little to offer on dry weddings. So, for all of you brides and grooms out there worried about your dry wedding, you don't have to worry! You are not alone. It's OKAY if your dream wedding does not include alcohol. Really, it's okay. Seriously.
Your true friends will understand and maybe some family won't understand but that's because they are your family and they know they can get away with being shitty to you. Don't worry, they'll get over it.

Time to get ready for a rehearsal dinner. I'm the +1. I was also unaware that this was going to be a dry wedding, not for religious purposes, but the couple argues every time they get drunk. This should be an interesting time... now where's my flask?
