concept I think is really funny: d/s au ranwan end up in a different (d/s au) world or culture that has the thing where doms are expected to not really talk in public and submissives are expected to talk on their dom’s behalf.

The Spring King himself, Maxwell. Older than the constant itself, to him are dedicated the mysteries of renewal, rebirth, as well as the protection of all creatures and flora that inhabit his lands. ( Fruit of an AU very important to my heart, that I’m developing with a bunch of friends )
d/s au calamity Xie Lian gives Wu Ming a spiked collar (the kind with the spikes on the inside). Tells him he'll wear it, if he wants to be following him. Wu Ming does, of course.
(Xie Lian remembers this over the centuries as another way he was awful to his last believer he then proceeded to get killed. Hua Cheng of course has very different feelings about his memories.)
(thought from a bit back, thinking about it again) So I know I've read at least one fic where wwx was arranged/forced married to qhj and lwj and he met under those circumstances, but trying to think if I've seen any where lwj is arranged/forced married to a dark jc and they meet under those.
I feel like I'm forgetting something obvious but not sure what.
In my head having more thoughts for a d/s au version but it doesn't have to be.
wwx feeling like, it's kind of his job to help welcome lwj, right, he's the only submissive in-law. But his brother's new husband does not seem even slightly receptive to or interested in wwx's welcome. He sits silently at meals, and basically never goes out, and looks at wwx with the cold no-expression he seems to give everything.
Also possibly wwx having some feelings about lwj seeming to be everything social messages say submissives are supposed to be. Complete with dedicating themselves to duty in mutually-beneficial-to-their-families marriage.
wwx of course does not know that lwj does not want to be here at all and is having a bad time and the marriage was very much an 'or else' thing at the lans.
Recent concept: d/s au hualian as part of investigating/trying to deal with a ghost go undercover as a [whatever the in-universe terms etc for high protocol would be] couple. (The idea I had for this is just that the ghost seems to be targeting at least one member of such couples, and they haven’t had luck tracking it down other ways).
They probably pose as travelers, get an inn room. Their covers are a well-off enough couple so they can have servants in and such to increase the chances they’ll be noticed how they want. And since this is what they’re doing - this is what they do. Hua Cheng lowers his head around Xie Lian, and softly calls him honorifics, and serves his food and drinks, and kneels at his side, and jumps promptly to his commands with a respectful bow.
And Xie Lian discovers that he is incredibly turned on by this.
He wasn’t expecting this! He never liked this sort of ceremony that much back when it went on around him all the time. He of course loves and is very attracted to Hua Cheng’s regular way of comporting himself.
He promptly feels bad about this. Over his centuries he has seen quite more than a share of abusive does and mistreated submissives, and required high formality as part of how a dom is treating a sub as a seen-not-heard convenient object, or of suppression, of abuse of power, is definitely something he’s seen repeatedly. (Of course he’s also seen lots of subs who love high formality, and plenty of subs who want it and aren’t getting it! But the contrast between Hua Cheng as usual and this, as well as insecurities he (Xie Lian) has are giving him pattern matching).
Meanwhile, of course Hua Cheng also absolutely loves this and has strong and deep desires for it, which he has also of course not even slightly been bringing up. As far as he’s concerned he knows how Xie Lian likes him, so of course that’s what he should be generally doing, and of course he is endlessly and forever blessed and grateful, and of course he shouldn’t be going and asking for still more or for what isn’t what Xie Lian wants.
Obviously in the end they work all this out and have some very hot and satisfying times. (They wouldn’t want to do this all the time, but that doesn’t mean they can’t thoroughly enjoy it).
(Also I think the ghost might turn out to be coming from one of those situations Xie Lian is thinking about, which might cause all this to come up.)
So what sub, stuck a bad d/s au and a bad dynamic, does sub basically work to rule thing and obeys all orders exactly to the letter.
me, reading a discipline fic from elsewhere (and having read/seen some wu ming content recently this is probably relevant!) (and having been thinking a bit about relevant hualian stuff): wait, what about *Wu Ming* and relevant stuff...
First thought then was aus, a wu ming working for prince xie lian, maybe for some reason getting disciplined by him personally which is not what he was expecting.
Then thinking of dark version with canon book 4 stuff.
Maybe version(s) with d/s au...
A different ‘disabled d/s au dom xie lian gets given sub hua cheng’ idea:
Xie Lian, who has always lived at home prior to this, heads off to university/cultivation school. Assures his parents that everything will be totally fine! Unfortunately in fact he has approximately -5 self care skills, and the kind of internalized ableism where he feels like he shouldn’t have all these ‘extra needs’ that other people don’t have, and he shouldn’t bring them up to people and ‘drag things down’, so how about he just - goes on as though he doesn’t. (...Also actually he might have the kind of internalized ableism mixed with class guilt where his family has always had servants etc, and he’s dealing with stuff around that, but - well, a lot of stuff talking about class etc issues isn’t good at acknowledging disability, so he has an issue where he ends up feeling like a bunch of his needs are ‘luxuries’.)
(Xie Lian: well, I used up all my energy/spoons/resources trying to keep up with everyone without showing that I was having any problems, so now I don’t have any left to make food or go to the dining hall or anything. Guess I’m just going to eat these potato chips for dinner, this is totally fine!)
When he goes home after a semester Xie Lian continues to proclaim that everything is going totally fine but his parents aren’t buying it and decide to contact the university and demand he be assigned someone (which, again in universe is just a thing).
So the university does that. In this case a sub who’s been designated from being a ward of the state to the university. This being Hua Cheng. (I think Hua Cheng is being a sufficiently decent university worker, partially because he’s very interested in things, and partially (in a version with the prior encounters with Xie Lian) because I think Xie Lian’s parents helped fund the university and stuff and got things named after Xie Lian (...that gives Xie Lian more issues doesn’t it) which makes Hua Cheng ! to be there. (An alternate idea is that he got brought to the university after the local version of the Qi Rong thing, but since the thing with spirits etc couldn’t happen here he just stayed there. (And the university does wards or something). This would raise the question of Xie Lian not seeing him again but that’s probably not hard to make work, especially since Xie Lian isn’t literally a prince here.)
Cue: Xie Lian being mad about domism Hua Cheng is experiencing and trying to do things about it, Xie Lian trying to do something about Hua Cheng also having -5 self care skills and Hua Cheng promptly reflecting that back at him, Xie Lian having both Internalized Issues and genuine recognition that he’s privileged in a terrible system and also liking Hua Cheng, Hua Cheng being 😍about Xie Lian and trying not to let him know this, people casually assuming Xie Lian is fucking Hua Cheng (which again in this world would be considered completely fine and regular), Xie Lian having issues because he wants to, Hua Cheng having issues because he also wants to, and Hualian needing to sort so many things out but definitely being so much happier for it (and handling some assholes too).

(Note here: to be clear, this society is in fact very bad. The domism is bad, having some people you treat as basically handy objects is very bad and not ok at all. (Also economic inequality and class inequality are bad - which, also doesn’t in any way make disabled people’s needs into luxuries.) Relationships across real world power dynamics have a lot of potential for bad stuff happening even if everyone has good intentions and good awareness of what all the issues can be, and much more if the second isn’t true even if the first is. (Which also doesn’t mean people can’t ever have and affirm them). Also in real life you should generally not sleep with either your hired or appointed care aids or with someone you are a hired or appointed care aid for.
The point here is hualian navigating a bunch of issues and finding things that work anyway, not that everything happening is totally great or something.)
