Rewatching ds9 with my partner and I’m not normal
Just for the record, the person sending anons and creating sideblogs to harass dreamerdrop has come clean and said they made it all up:
And also in this anon:
fandom history
between 2010-12, ds9 fic was "rare" enough for ds9 to qualify for yuletide* (2009 marked 10 years since the show had finished + that was an eligibility thing at the time)
*yuletide is the rare fandom gift exchange thing btw, going for 20+ years
Major Kira Nerys after The Darkness and the Light episode was like
So I now have these in my possession and am ready to enjoy them and also scan and transcribe them for blog purposes, like the generous geek I am. They’re both in pristine condition, to the point both have posters inside that are still stapled in. One of them is a close-up of Garak and I’m torn over whether I unstaple it because holy crap, a Garak poster from 1993, versus "ruining" the old magazine? Though it's not worth much, was cheap on eBay.
Oh, and I should mention (d'oh!) that both of these issues cover Season 2, meaning they include complete recaps of episodes, plus production notes, interviews and things related to those specific seasons. I’m definitely going to share the synopses for “Profit and Loss” and “The Wire,” plus of course the big Andy Robinson spread. I know that last one has been posted many times online but it’s always a graphic and find those very difficult to read. I’m very good at transcription, so I’m happy to just type it up, then scan any photos in separately.
Excitedly, Wendy
P.S. The Garak issue includes a collectible poster of Kira and Bareil, from one of those scenes where they’re being all romantic and he’s shirtless. It’s… well… not something I’d hang on my wall. As opposed to the Garak poster!
21st century marvels
Waiting at a bus stop holding an umbrella and just purchased three Julian and one Garak collectors card off eBay using my iPhone. Total: $16. Money came from writing and editing books here in the U.S. that were edited and formatted in England and then sold via the Internet as e-books or print on demand.

Friday night thought: Odo, then and now
Here’s a DS9 thought, coming off a post I just read about Odo.
Now, back when the show originally aired, I was ALL about Odo. As with TOS and TNG, went straight for the outsider; I love Spock (my first love) and Data. I had a whole thing going on about his isolation, his angst, etc. – you can imagine, I was a teen / young adult, naturally I went there. His episodes with Lwaxana Troi were favorites of mine, as she was sympathetic to him, sort of providing this comfort I’d want to I guess. As far as his relationship with Kira went, I was OK with that, although I admit to two things: 1) I missed quite a lot of the last two seasons because I was in college w/o a TV and 2) at that time I had trouble parsing out romantic relationships.
After the show ended, I actually wrote a couple DS9 fanfics – I have an example I might post one day, unpolished as it is – and predictably, it was centered on Odo. Again, more dwelling on his Otherness, isolation, him meeting strange aliens. Also, starting around 2000, when I discovered online fanfic was a thing (before I was just doing it on my own), I found DS9 fanfic. But did I look at any Garak/Bashir stuff? NOPE, I went straight over to Odo. (This was despite the fact that I was heavily into slash, like huge in the Vamp Chron fandom.) So I started reading all these fics that were about Kira and Odo. These stories seemed to break down into three main categories: 1) angsty relationship stuff, 2) interspecies baby, 3) sex stuff taking advantage of Odo’s special abilities. Or they incorporated all three! I can’t say there weren’t -some- good stories, but it was kind of limited, so didn’t stick with that for long. (Damnit me for not stumbling onto Garashir. Ugh!)
Flash forward to about 15 years later, when I go re-watch DS9, which I hadn’t really seen in reruns or anything anywhere. I’m not even going to go into all the amazingness that happened when I watched that over again, but naturally, the further I got in, the more I looked at fanfic. And again, the first thing I did was look at Odo-Kira stuff. Only this time, I was like “Eh” and even “Hmm, nope.” Not that I even have a problem with the relationship, I simply didn’t want to read about it. Actually, I didn’t have much interest in reading about Odo at all. Now, I still find him very cool as a -character-, but the utter fascination and obsession I had for him was gone. I no longer wanted to like be his Lwaxana or whatever. I could appreciate him on a whole other level and it was beyond being vulnerable or this wounded creature – though he isn’t invulnerable either – but more as a very competent, amazing, complex individual. And I don’t know if there are fanfic that really capture that, I haven’t looked, but I’d probably appreciate them if I knew of them.
Meanwhile, obviously we all know what fanfic I -did- end up exploring instead. And hell yes I did also love Garak first run as well. Exactly the kind of person I’d crush on. Soooooo bad. But at the time, was looking more for something I could mother. So HE is my fav DS9 character OBVIOUSLY.

All the DS9 actors (plus Ira Steven Behr) involved in the “What We Left Behind” documentary. Meaning yup, interviews in the doc and promoting it. My favorite of all these headshots is Robert O’Reilly’s. He looks so damn jovial -- hard to imagine him all crazy-eyed yelling at Worf for being a traitor.
Quoting the campaign:
“You couldn't make a Deep Space Nine documentary without talking to a few of the actors. So we spoke to a few, then a few more, and a few more after that. We have been fortunate to have wonderful participation across the board from principle cast members to the people that brought our favorite reoccurring roles to life.
Also involved... 5 of the DS9 series writers put pen to paper, to map out the first episode of a mythical season 8. We will reveal more about the writers room as the campaign progresses.
Behind the camera, this documentary will be produced by the team from For the Love of Spock, including director Adam Nimoy, producers David Zappone, Joseph Kornbrodt, Kevin Layne, Kai De Mello-Folsom, and editor Luke Snailham.”
Meanwhile, with 8 days left, they are just about $50,000 shy of their $500,000 mega-ultimate goal, which will basically cover EVERYTHING they want to do. There are all kinds of levels of giving and cool perks, including three excellent T-shirts:
So, you have about a week if you want to jump on it. And of course I guess in 2017 we get a documentary!
