am i crazy for kind of having some negative feelings about the duffer brothers ?

the fact they wrote mikes queerness as a plot twist and want to protect it so hard, to me is part of why the queer community is treated so badly in this fandom. because they’ve hidden mike’s pov so much, and do want a big part of the audience to still think Mike is straight until the reveal. it’s why the show keeps promoting Mi11

it feels like they’d rather protect the plot twist than the queer audience the show was originally for. is all

i think saying earlier in the shows run that the only confirmed sexualities are robin and will would have helped a lot. shit they dont even gotta talk abt the show! just say theyve seen the homophobia and its disappointing and not what the expect from their fans

the thing is, I’m fine enough with where the characters ended up bc i can make it serve my agenda - but that is exactly the problem with the finale. It is objectively poor plotting and writing to shy so completely away from committing to any singular outcome (aside from the most overwhelmingly fan supported) and allow the audience to write their own ending. maybe there are people who DO like that (I guess I’m kind of one of them!), but I think it’s so incredibly weak and speaks to the (lack of) faith they have in their own creative ethos and how little they feel they understand the world they’ve built.

stranger things has always sucked

honestly, I’m really loving the surge of people finally waking up to how poorly written and godawful this show is. between the queerbaiting, serious plot holes, and the fact that nobody has died yet, stranger things has literally gone from a really fucking cool, thoughtfully created show to an absolute dumpster fire. and that dumpster fire didn’t just start with season 5, it started back in season 2, when the cowardly slugs behind the show (I’m talking about you, Matt and Ross) realized how much money they could milk from it. honestly, stranger things should be used in college courses, and not as an example of good writing, but as an example of how to completely disembowel characters and make them so unlikable and absolutely useless that the overall plot carries on the same, whether or not they’re there at all. it’s a masterclass in bullshit. the duffer brothers can suck my gay asshole honestly

and for any of you who visit my blog and see that I’ve reblogged stranger things stuff, I’m not going to act like I didn’t enjoy the show. but i enjoyed it more for what it COULD have been, not for the slop it actually was.

they've talked in general about going WAY darker with will in season 2 than they ended up doing, so yeah, that was my first thought with the duffers saying they're using things they originally planned in season 2 though i'm sure they've got lots more up their sleeves, lol
