It's what she deserves
Fun fact one of the first things Inej takes stock of about Dunyasha is that her height would give her a longer reach in a fight but might impact her balance, and that’s essentially what she uses to her advantage to defeat her at the end of ck
Very rude when they send an assassin to take out your assassin!

I can finally share the interior illustrations I did last year for Litjoy's Annotated Special Edition Box Set of Leigh Bardugo's Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom!
Inej versus Dunyasha on the silo highwire in Crooked Kingdom, and Nina on Jurda Parem in Six of Crows
Hope you feel better! A couple of asks coming your way 💕
How do you think it would go down if any of the other crows had to fight Dunyasha?
Thank you thank you thank you for the questions!!! Each one made me so unbelievably happy to answer!
Hmmm....
Okay:
Matthias would lose to Dunyasha. As a hardcore Matthias glazer, I do forget that he isn't actually invincible (sobs). In the bare-bone canon material he's really just a highly trained, highly skilled soldier. He's intelligent and strong, but he's still human. I tend to give him more Witcher-like abilities in my stories but in Leigh's works he is just a soldier. And though Dunyasha is smaller than him, and in hand-to-hand combat in the ring I think she'd lose, I do feel like Dunyasha is too highly trained of an assassin to make the mistake of challenging him head-on. I feel like she'd assassinate him by preying on his kindness, by tricking him with her "soft" and angelic appearance, and I feel like even if Matthias could tell something was off his need to help her would outweigh his caution (and ultimately cement his fate).
Jesper wouldn't cross paths with her. He's too much of a wildcard, he's very unpredictable and he has such a twisted sense of luck to him I feel like Dunyasha would be forced to spend her entire time tracking him all over the city while he's none the wiser. It would serve to humiliate her, which would definitely make her angry enough to start getting aggressive (and sloppy). If she does manage to get him cornered, it would be an even match, but it all comes down to if fate is feeling particularly bored or not.
There has already been more than one attempts on Wylan's life, so in that aspect I feel like he'd be able to catch onto her before she'd be able to set up her strike on him. Wylan and Dunyasha's fight would be a lot more scrappy, a lot more desperate, and I feel like it's that frightened or wounded animal energy to him that would give Wylan the edge to come out on top. He would not walk away from the fight without serious scars and damage, but he would at least live to lick his wounds in peace.
Nina is a hard maybe. I could see it ending up either way, but i feel like Nina has such a knack for getting under people's skins that she could really win against Dunyasha just by playing the mind games/reading Dunyasha's tells (similar to how Inej canonically does). The difference really is if Dunyasha got to Matthias before targeting Nina or not, because though I do think Nina would come out the victor she might lose herself to rage in the process.
Kaz would win. Not even saying this as a Kaz glazer, or as an Inej fan, the whole point of Dunyasha to me is her pride, and Kaz eats prideful fools for breakfast. Like Wylan, Kaz is definitely not walking away without a scratch, but I cannot be convinced that Kaz would fall for any of Dunyasha's tricks - and yet, Dunyasha feels like someone who would easily fall for the kind of rage-baiting Kaz is confirmed to excel at.
Dunyasha would try to assassinate Kuwei and Wylan (in his Kuwei disguise) would come in from behind with a steel chair.
The way that dunyasha and inej are parallels of each other, one in white the other in black, one with beautiful fight training and the other taught straight from the streets, one dignified and convinced she was royal and holy, the other hiding in the shadows and worried that her saints wouldn't take her because of the blood on her hands. One without fear, the other taught to run towards it. One loud and talkative while fighting, the other silent. One hiding in the shadows, the other announcing her presence.
The way that Inej wins that fight due to the people around her, and the city that she forcefully taken to. A form of armor(padding) from Jesper, a healthy sense of fear from her father, a way to find dunyasha's weaknesses from Kaz. The familiarity of the city that keeps her on the roof while dunyasha falls, even when blinded.
The way that Dunyasha knows how good she is and lets it make her cocky. The way that Inej had to learn all of her fighting skills to stay alive in a place where she was weaker.
Inej learning everything she knows as a survival skill, having knowledge from many different places/people that she combined and repurposed into the person that she is, the fighting style that she has. It all coming together in chapter 35 of crooked kingdom as she fights against someone better than her.
Dunyasha being taught from monks, and while learning how to fight better, not having the same kind of practical experience that comes from being beaten down and getting back up again, and that being her downfall.
My opinion on Leigh Bardugo's character's names as Eastern European:
- Alina Starkov - 8/10, it'd be believable if it was StarkovA and it doesn't make sense her grandpa to be named Stark but ok ig.
- Malyan Oretsev - 0/10, Malyan literally means small, nobody would name their kid this way.
- Genya Safin - 0/10, I absolutely despise it. Genya is nick name for Genadiy which is strictly masc name. I think it should be ZHenya SafinA. Zhenya is neutral (nick)name used for Evgeniy/Evgeni(y)a.
- Nikolai Lantsov - 6/10, the name is translatinized either Nikolay, or Nikolaĭ, other wise it sounds bad. I'm also not fan of the name Lantsov because it comes from the word lantsi what we call golden necklaces shaped like chains.
- Alexander Morozova - 9/10, absolutely believable name if it wasn't the 'a' I learned exists.
- Eryk - 0/10 The name is stupid. It is not typical name esp. for that long ago and transcyrillized it's Ерйк which is unpronouncable.
- Zoya Nazyalensky - 9/10 it should be Nazyalenska.
- Tolya Yul-Bataar - 9.5/10 his father is supposed to be from Shu-Han which is like the version for Mongolia there so the first name is a bit questionable
- Tamar Kir-Bataar - 8.5/10 The same with Toya plus the name is usually Tamara
- David Kostyk - 5/10 cuz the first name is logical but the last name is transcyrillized Костйк which is unpronounceable
- Nadia Zhabin - 4/10 The name is Nadya, not Nadia, it sounds weird. Plus I doubt someone would name their 'from a frog', 'granddaughter of a frog' or 'the one who takes care of frogs' because zhaba means frog. Also it should be ZhabinA.
- Adrik Zhabin - 7/10 Adrik is weird name but it's pronounceable
- Dunyasha Latzareeva - 9.5/10 I think the last name is supposed to be Lazareeva or Lazarova.
- Vasiliy Lantsov - 8/10 because of the weird last name
- Tatiana Lantsov - 2/10 because the name is Tatyana not Tatiana, it sounds weird. And the last name is weird plus it should be LantsovA. She is also to be supposed to be from Fjerda that seems a bit like the equivalent of Sweden and I don't think the name makes sense.
- Ludmila Lantsov - 4/10 it should be LYUdmila LantsovA
- Sergei Beznikov - 3/10 The name is Sergey or Sergeĭ. Also Beznikov is not really nice name cuz the pronunciation is weird.
- Marie - 7/10 The name is almost always Mariya (or Maria, depends on the translatinization the country chose) and it can't be justified as nick name or shorten version because the right one is either Masha or Mimi.
- Yevgeniy Lantsov - 0/10 I've got to add this because I'm tired of western people adding Y in front of E in names like Evgeniy, Elena and etc.
- Ilya Morozova - 9/10 It should be Morozov.
- Baghra - 0/10 The transcyrilizaion is unpronounceable. And if she wanted to name her something like this she could've used Bagra which literally means colour.
Ms. Bardugo has 110/210 from me.
I still wish I never saw how the names were in the original and we can still ask for more the Western authors and media.
Was this way too much effort for a parody? Yes. Was it worth it? I don’t fucking know. But never let it be said that I don’t commit to the bit.
Dunyasha Lazareva in the style of bowater, because it’s only right that for a parody of Aelin Ashryver Galathinius of the Too Many Titles.
