vex’ahlia does a lot of remembering in the feywild. lots of thinking, too, but plenty of remembering. she remembers the enticing promise of being able to protect the friends that are her family, as well as her home. she remembers taking saundor’s hand to the dismayed gasps of vox machina and how she was pulled into the canopy. she remembers the pain as her body was changed, flesh becoming a mix of greenery and tree bark. she remembers her own promise. once vox machina’s enemies are defeated, vex would return to the shademurk bog ( now forest ), forever, along with fenthras. a promise none of them ever took seriously. she remembers their plotting to kill saundor once they returned. he did them and tal’dorei a favour, but it wasn’t out of the goodness of his heart. above all, he was a creepy fuck. she remembers his horrible grin when he saw her and she remembers his rage when she attacked him with his old bow. she remembers her new, melodic voice telling him ‘ my heart was never going to be yours. ’
after that, vex had had to tell vox machina that she would not return with them to the prime material plane. she belonged in the feywild now more than elsewhere, both physically and mentally. the shademurk forest had become hers to protect. the land knew that she had saved it from saundor’s corruption the first time. it welcomed her home. such an interesting feeling rose up in response to that. the shademurk did feel like home, but in tandem she was already homesick for her friends and for whitestone. her heart of wood and moss told her to leave, to go with them -- but she knew she had to stay. it was the right decision. and so she did stay and they went. ( they would visit, of course ).
many prime material plane years later, vex wanders the shademurk forest, doing her remembering. most of her thinking happens when she is exploring elsewhere, something she has done plenty of, and yet still feels like she has much left to do. delving deeper even into the shademurk had taken time, though she knows it quite thoroughly now. she’s become well acquainted with all the dryad, pixies, and the other fey creatures that live here. many had been intrigued by her old life as a half-elf, but the intrigue didn’t last long, such is the way of the fey. and the fey way has become quite familiar to vex. and while she currently wanders the shademurk, she does it as a fey would. she’s all grace as she steps lightly. it’s as though she is one with the earth. her steps are light and she easily grabs onto branches, climbing from one tree to the next. it is when she spots an unfamiliar guest that she halts.
‘ hello there, ’ she simply calls out to this stranger from her place up in the tree, making herself visible. it’s not weird for other fey to make an appearance, but vex’s protective nature still kicks in. ‘ are you here for business, or pleasure ? ’ // a fey gals starter for @duplicitied !
