I started this off wanting to make it angsty, but sometimes (all the time), the fic and characters just have a hold over you.
Prompt #8: Ginny vs Dursley
The front door clicked open, and Lily came running into the living room and jumped into Harry’s lap, prompting him to drop the newspaper and go, “oof!”
who would you like Harry to be raised by?
Sirius and Remus 🐺⭐️
James and Lily 🦌
Severus Snape 🦇
the Dursleys 🗑
Dumbledore 🧙♂️
Minerva 🐈
“i could fix her” “i could make her worse” well i could blow her up like a giant balloon and watch her disappear over the garden wall
If you are taking requests. Can you write something about the Dursley’s. Like Harry and Ginny talking about them or running into them?
A/N: Not super long but I hope you enjoy! I think Harry would also casually mention things from his childhood and Ginny looking absolutely horrified and he has to realise that that was another thing that was absolutely not normal.
Harry and Ginny went to Privet Drive before the Dursleys returned to their home. He would avoid them if he could and he no longer had any reason to spend time with them. They had been kept safe during the war, and that was enough.
Harry walked into the vacant home, it was left just as he remembered it. Nothing seemed to have moved in the meanwhile. Ginny silently followed him upstairs and helped him pack the rest of his clothes, his books and some other small items.
“Did… they really hit you?” Ginny asked him as they closed his trunk. Harry sighed, he had never talked about it in depth.
“Vernon thought my mere existence was an offence. Dudley just had anger issues,” he explained. Ginny did not pry any more than that. She knew it was worse than he was letting on. He picked up his trunk and took it downstairs.
He was lost in thought looking at the cupboard under the stairs. Ginny came to stand beside him.
“My first bedroom,” he clarified. Ginny looked appalled.
“They put you in there as a baby?” she asked in shock, she never had heard of such a thing. Harry hesitated to clarify but did it anyway.
“No, until I was eleven,” Harry softly said, looking at Ginny to see her reaction. She looked as though she could kill a man as she stepped forward and pulled open the cupboard door and looked inside.
“Were they out of their minds?!” she let out angrily, stepping back. She was clearly fuming. Harry put an arm around her and pulled her to his side in the hopes it would pacify her.
“To think so many people in the Order could have raised you and they left you here with literally the worst muggles possible,” she said in disgust.
“It was my best protection,” Harry simply replied, it was all he had known. Ginny shook her head in disbelief at the whole situation.
“I am very tempted to stay here and hex them but I will be the bigger person and take you home instead and you can finally leave these awful people behind you,” she said, caressing his cheek. He smiled and leaned into her touch.
“That sounds wonderful,” Harry replied. He picked up his trunk and let Ginny lead him out of the house.
Not a Dumbledore slander, but instead of forcing Harry every summer to go at the Dursley's to be protected from Voldemort, couldn't have he hidden Harry in someone's house (maybe Sirius's after the fourth book) with the Fidelius Charm? Harry would've been protected for all summer and he would've been at Hogwarts the rest of the year, under the protection of Dumbledore himself. This way Harry wouldn't have been further abused by his relatives and would've actually been relaxed during the summer holidays.
I may be dumb, but I think this could've worked.
