Master And Apprentice - Ahsoka (2023)
AHSOKA
S1 | Part One - MASTER AND APPRENTICE
Industrial Automaton R7-Series Astromech Droid

While it was neat to see a New Republic E-Wing in the Ahsoka trailer, I was never the biggest fan of the design.
I never hated it or anything, but to me it always kinda looked like a generic fighter from one of the countless 1980s Star Wars wanna-bes.
E-7 E-wing multi-role starfighters were quick, efficient starfighters used by the New Republic to replace their use of older X-wings. Although not always preferred by experienced X-wing pilots, E-wings played an important role as versatile escort fighters. E-wings required a pilot and an R7-series astromech droid, and came equipped with shielding, hyperdrive, heavy laser cannons, and proton torpedo launchers.

First Appearance: Dark Empire 3: The Battle for Calamari (1992)
New Republic E-wing fighter pictured in an official news release, circa 17 ABY. Following the victory of the Alliance to restore the Republic over the Galactic empire at the battle of Endor alliance, now New Republic, personnel began work on a new fighter series to standardize around. The new fighter flew first in 9ABY, but major issues establishing production lines, and ongoing conflict against imperial remnant forces delayed the crafts introduction into widespread service for years. The issues with entering full production, as well as the high cost and frequent maintenance requirements of the E-wing meant that it served much of its life alongside the very types it was meant to replace. Namely the X-wing and A-wing fighters. Ignoring these issues the E-wing was a capable and deadly craft, superior to anything else in the New Republics starfighter corps when introduced and enjoying superiority over most imperial types for over a decade. A favorite of its pilots the craft enjoyed a reputation for being able to take damage and keep flying, assuming a regular maintenance cycle was maintained by ground crews.
