Made Sean a new hat. Here you go:
I-Hook, approx. 200 yards Worsted Weight Yarn (Berroco Talara used). We're making a ribbed hat that will have some stretch. It'll buckle a little at the beginning, but trust the process.
Round 1: Make a magic ring. Work a chain 3 in magic ring. This counts as your first double crochet (DC). Mark this as your first stitch in every round. Work 9 more DC into ring. Do not join. We are working in a spiral with the same starting stitch in every round.
Round 2: Complete 2 front post double crochet (FPDC) around the chain 3.
Round 3: Complete 2 FPDC around other 9 DC around (20 stitches total).
Round 4: Complete 2 FPDC around every FPDC of previous round (40 stitches total).
Round 5: Complete 2 FPDC around every FPDC of previous rounds (80 stitches).
Round 6: *FPDC in the first stitch. DC in second stitch. Repeat from * around. You will have 80 stitches. 40 will be FPDC. 40 will be plain double crochet.
Round 7-31: Continue working a FPDC in all odd stitches and a plain DC in all even stitches until you have completed 25 rows in this pattern. At the end of pattern round 25, join the last DC to the FPDC that started the round with a slip stitch. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Note: You can always add or remove rows for a preferred fit.
