After 4+ years of not writing a thing for any of the fandoms I’ve loved, Matchablossom has finally pulled me out of my writing coma. I used to post this stuff on my anime sideblog, but we’ve fully embraced being a messy bitch at this point and here we are.  <3

do you ship otayuri? if so, do you ahve any headcanons for them?

I do! And I will happily share some of my HCs for them, but let’s get this out of the way first: I recognize that when Otabek and Yuri meet up in Ep. 10 Otabek is 18 and Yuri is 15. However, the age gap is actually 2yrs and 4months (Otabek would have just turned 18 in October - at the beginning of the season - and Yuri will be 16 in March - a few months after the GPF) and that isn’t a problem for me. I get why some people are uncomfortable with the age gap bc a 2yr age gap between teens is a much bigger deal than, say, a 4yr age gap between people in their 20s. When I was in high school, I saw seniors date sophomores and yes, sometimes it was creepy. But I also had two friends who started dating in high school (for context, I’m now 25, high school was a while ago) when one was a senior and the other was a sophomore and they’re now happily married and have a small baby thing. The other couple I knew that started dating in high school with that same age gap is currently engaged. And again, I don’t live in like… some super conservative, everyone gets married to their high school bf/gf place. So. I know there is/was controversy over their age gap and I understand that everyone can have their own feelings about the gap/this ship, so I would appreciate that same understanding for why I don’t have a problem with the age gap and ship OtaYuri. :) 

OK here are my hcs for OtaYuri getting together:

Otabek has not been in love with Yuri since the first time he met him. Yuri did not fall in love with Otabek simply because he whisked him away on his motorcycle. But there is a pull between them that isn’t romantic in nature initially. Yuri feels at ease around Otabek, Otabek enjoys Yuri’s presence, and it’s simply comfortable to be around each other, to text each other throughout the day, to low-key miss having the other person around often. 

They stay in contact after the GPF. Otabek doesn’t use social media much and he texts like an old man, with perfect grammar and all, but Yuri doesn’t mind. Yuri sends a lot of pictures of his cat, internet memes, random ass things that he finds entertaining and just getting an “Lol.” from Otabek can make him smile. 

This level of contact continues on for a while, with them only seeing each other at competitions. But at the GPF a year after they “met,” Otabek and Yuri are practically inseparable. Yuri texts Otabek the second he gets off the plane to ask what he’s up to and Otabek texts him back “Nothing.” So, once Yuri gets checked in to the hotel, he bangs on Otabek’s door, “Get up, we’re going sightseeing. Did you rent a motorcycle again?” 

Oh, also, Yuri has started to get taller. His growth spurt is fucking with his skating and he loathes his new height with every fiber of his too-tall being, but he does smirk a little to himself when he realizes he’s about an inch taller than Otabek now. 

Yuri doesn’t place that year (Otabek bronze, Victor silver, Yuuri gold) and while he’s pissed about how he does, he’s also genuinely happy for Otabek (and stupid Katsudon too). He tells Otabek this much at the banquet, where they are still basically attached at the hip, because they are best friends, after all. 

(And so what if Yuri kind of has a crush on Otabek, it doesn’t matter because he doesn’t even know what way Otabek swings and he’s not going to ask because - as close as they are - they just don’t talk about relationship things or stuff like that). 

(It does not help that Victor picks up on the fact that Yuri and Otabek have basically been together during every free second they have during the GPF and gives Yuri that knowing look late into the banquet. It takes all of Yuri’s self-control not to scream obscenities at Victor.)

And then Otabek invites him to stay with him in Almaty for the summer and train there with him (Fic rec - if you haven’t read “From Almaty, with Love” you should)

This is a problem. Because living with Otabek is so easy and comfortable and there is a distinct possibility that he is falling in love with him. 

Nicknames start happening. Beka. Beks. Yura. 

The low-key physical distances they always maintained between goes away too. Otabek is still more contained than Yuri, but casual touches happen a lot when they simply didn’t exist between them before. They sit closer to each other than necessary. Otabek - seemingly unthinkingly - starts playing with Yuri’s hair when they’re watching a movie. But whatever this new dynamic between them is, they don’t address it. 

Leaving Almaty to go back to Russia is one of the most painful things Yuri has ever done. 

And then the real pining starts. 

Now, they Skype and Facetime and even occassionally talk over the phone and if Yuri’s chest literally hurts sometimes when they say goodnight that’s fine. 

Sometime before the GPF series starts up, Yuuri and Victor decide to go back to Japan to visit everyone. Yuri “begrudgingly” goes a long with them and casually throws it out to Otabek - “if you wants to meet up with us there you can, since you’ve never really seen anything outside of Tokyo and we’re still going to be training at the Hasetsu rink, so you could do that too, if you wants, but no pressure, of course.”

Otabek quite likes the hot springs and yuuri’s mom’s katsudon. 

Also, watching Yuri interact with everyone - Yuuko, the triplets, even Victor and Yuuri -  and how much Yuri actually loves these people (despite acting like a pissed-off cat constantly) makes him ridiculously happy? He just wants to see Yuri that happy all the time? And that loved? And he wants to be a person in Yuri’s life that is also a source of that love? And sure, Otabek knew he had started to feel things for Yuri when he was in Almaty, but now it just feels very, very real. 

One night at dinner, Victor and Yuuri are talking about planning their wedding and Victor asks if Yuri he’ll be one of his groomsmen and Yuri “begrudgingly” says yes and then Otabek starts asking polite questions about the event - what date did they pick? where will they have it? - and Victor just casually says something like “oh, well you’re invited of course. You’ll be Yuri’s date right?” and Yuri nearly chokes on his food. 

(How competent are Hasetsu’s police? So what if Victor accidentally dies in the hot springs? They can’t actually prove Yuri did anything, right?)

Yuuri had gently diverted the topic away from who Yuri wants to bring as a date after Victor’s comment, but now the invisible elephant in the room may as well be neon pink so. 

Yuri decides to take the plunge. 

After dinner, he tugs Otabek out for a walk. It’s quiet for a while and then Yuri finally feels something in him break and he’s confessing - Fuck, ok, so. I don’t know how you feel about things and I don’t want to fuck our friendship up, but I really like you. In, like, a gross way that makes me want to spend all my time with you and makes me miss you constantly, basically. So -”

Otabek places his hands on Yuri’s face, the action enough to make all the other words he could feel threatening to spill out disappear. Otabek smiles - I like you too. In a way that makes me want to spend all my time with you and miss you constantly, too. 

Yuri sighs, heavily - Oh fuck, thank god - and then they’re both leaning in, Yuri wrapping his arms around Otabek while one of Otabek’s leaves his cheek to tuck Yuri’s hair behind his ear. 

It’s a first kiss for both of them. 

And it’s perfect.

Prompt: not-so-distant futurefic. makkachin actually dies of old age, and it hits victor hard - makkachin had been his only friend for so long. we see victor opening up to yuuri about how lonely he felt when he was skating at the top. yuuri tries to be there for him. hurt/comfort Rating: G Words: 926

It’s snowing in St. Petersberg.

This isn’t shocking, just an observation. Something concrete for Victor to latch on to, even if the flakes melt away as soon as they touch the wet streets below him or the glass of the window before him.

The apartment is quiet. He can hear Yuuri shuffling around in the kitchen - bare feet padding across tile, a plate clinking against another, the closing of the cabinet door - but the sounds he has grown accustomed to hearing after so many years are gone, their absence deafening.

“Hey Victor?”

Victor glances up from his place by the window and sees that Yuuri has crossed to the sofa, slipping on a pair of socks.

“Let’s go for a walk.”

Victor stares at him for a moment, quietly watching as he stands and walks to the door, pulling on his shoes and then his coat. It doesn’t feel like much of a question, or at least a fair one to ask, when Yuuri has already decided the answer for him. He could decline, just to be difficult, and a part of him wants to do just that. But when he sees the look on Yuuri’s face, a small flicker of recognition reminds him that this is Yuuri’s loss too, different and yet the same as his own.

Victor sighs out an “alright” before standing to get his coat.

They walk down familiar streets, hand in hand, in silence. It’s not quite dark out, the street lights flickering on as they walk. Victor doesn’t pay attention to where they are going, but he also isn’t surprised when he realizes Yuuri has taken them to river, letting go of Victor’s hand to lean against the railing and watch the water flow.

Victor finds his place beside him. He shifts slightly to take in more of Yuuri’s profile, watching as brown eyes stay down, fixed on the river below. The unspoken “talk, if you want to” hovers over the nonexistent space between their shoulders. 

Moments pass again in silence. The snow falls. The sky grows darker. 

“I... “ Victor says as he looks back down at the river. The words feel thick, stuck. He clears his throat, starts again. 

“I was always so alone. Which sometimes sounds ridiculous to me, since there were so many people always around me - Yakov, other skaters, even the press and fans - but ... Makkachin was my only family for a long time. At the end of the day, it didn’t matter if I couldn’t figure out the right step sequence for my choreography or if I’d said the right thing in front of the press or if I’d won gold, as long as I gave him good food and took him for walks and -”

He pulls the glove off his right hand without reason and holds out his palm, watching as the snowflakes fall, touch his skin, and melt away. 

“Makkachin was old and I knew - last year, when I came to coach you in Japan - that he wasn’t going to be around for much longer, but it still ...”

It’s funny, sometimes - how bad they both can be at communicating feelings when they’ve made careers out of conveying love and longing and loss on the ice. But this - this moment, and all the private ones before them, good and bad - is so much more raw than anything Victor has ever put before an audience. 

“When Vicchan died, I was... If you’re anything like me when it comes to this, you won’t be okay for a while, probably. Not today, not tomorrow, and ... it hurts. A lot.” Yuuri says, sighing as he moves to lean against the railing with just his right arm and reaches for Victor’s exposed hand with his left, fingers tracing over Victor’s, over his ring, before lacing together. Yuuri glances from Victor’s hand to his face, the understanding in his eyes enough to make Victor’s vision blur. “You’ll always miss Makkachin because he was family and that’s that. But... you won’t be alone anymore. Not ever.”

Victor squeezes Yuuri’s hand in his, the moment too heavy for him to handle in what would probably be an emotionally appropriate way. Instead, he blinks away the burn in his eyes and cracks a shaky smile. 

“It almost sounds like you’re proposing to me, Yuu~ri.” 

Yuuri looks surprised for a second before he rolls his eyes and gives Victor a smile of his own.

“Our wedding is less than two months away, Victor.”

“I suppose that’s true.” Victor smiles at him again, the feeling less shaky this time. 

“Come on, let’s get home. It’s cold out here.” Yuuri simply shakes his head at his antics and tugs at this hand, leading them back home. 

The walk home is quiet, again, the street lights a persistent warm glow against the wet snow. Victor isn’t paying much attention, again - it’s hard not to think of all the times he’s walked down this street with Makkachin beside him - but he feels a little lighter, the ache lessened just a bit. 

Just before the door to their apartment complex, Yuuri stops him, gently places a hand on his chest and kisses him, quietly and slowly. 

And then he stops, pulling away with a small smile, before letting go of Victor to get his keys from his coat pocket and open the door. 

You’ll be okay. You won’t be alone. You’ll always be loved. 

The words go unsaid, but Victor hears them nonetheless.

Makorra and partners for a group project AU.

I didn’t count the quotes as separate sentences sooo it’s sort of 3 sentences/sort of not, haha. 

For the Pairing/Au/3 Sentences Meme.

“’Don’t drop it,’ he said.” Korra half-shouted as she slowly made her way from the kitchen to her boyfriend’s bedroom, pulling sheet after sheet of paper towel off the roll. 

“‘You’ll break it,’ he said.” She teased, tossing him the roll before wiping at the mess on her own shirt and laughing as he scrambled to catch it when the paper towels began unfurling in the air. “But lo-and-behold, who’s the one with egg, well, almost on their face now, hmmm…”

Mako grumbled (something about trying to be affectionate, just trying to give her a stupid hug, that had her rolling her eyes and laughing even harder) as he pulled off his jacket, egg dripping mournfully from the chest pocket, and wiped away the gooey remains of their shattered egg baby (and all hopes of a good grade) from his shirt.

I only vaguely remember the process of dentist’s visits and didn’t bother doing my Fanfic Research Duty for this fic because that requires effort. AU, I suppose, since I don’t think Korra’s the Avatar in this? Meow. Enjoy.

For most people, going to the dentist is an unpleasant chore, something avoided if possible and tolerated at best. But "most people" are not Mako. Maybe it's the fact that such services were a luxury for most of his life or simply the “nice, clean teeth" feeling afterward, but Mako genuinely enjoys the process... 

For the most part. 

"How are you, Mako, it's been a while since I've seen you!" His dentist slaps a hand on his shoulder, his booming voice and wide, bright white smile making the already confined space smaller in a weirdly comfortable way. Something about him reminds Mako of his brother (which is probably why Bolin had recommended him to Mako in the first place), but his first cleaning with the dentist had gone smoothly months ago, even if the dentist was a bit too personal at times. So, here he was once again. “You’re looking good! Been working out?”

“No, uh, thanks, but I've just been keeping busy with work. Lots of interesting cases recently." Mako manages to say as the chair begins to recline. He only has a few more seconds to try and steer the conversation, plant as many safe conversation seeds as he can, as a flimsy bib is tucked around his neck and a glaring light is pulled overhead . "I'm on track for a promotion though." 

"That's great, just wonderful. Open wide.”

Maybe it worked this time, maybe he won’t have to...

“Hey, how’s that girlfriend of your’s doing? Still with her?”

 Dammit.

“Uhh huhh shees gooo,” he manages to get out, while his dentist maneuvers the mirror and the prod with the little hook on the end around his mouth. 

“That’s a long time then, right? A few years? Planning on getting hitched anytime soon?” 

No, no they are not. Marraige isn’t really a priority for him or Korra, with both of their careers to think of and only a vague sense of interest in a family in the far distant future, but that’s a lot to explain while two metal wands work their way through his mouth - “Naw any timeeeh suhn, buh prolly whehn we’he a bih oduh.”

The dentist nods and Mako thinks he’s smiling behind the mask covering his nose and mouth given the the hum he issues in response. He turns away for a moment to grab the little tube that squirts water and Mako enjoys the few seconds of questionless silence before he says in a hushed tone - “Are you hesitating because of, you know, problems? In the bedro--”

Mako nearly chokes on the water in his mouth, before the dentist pops in the suction straw.  Mako swears he can feel the heat creeping across his face and neck for the mere seconds of silence in which the question hangs awkwardly in the air, the sound of the suction machine whirring obnoxiously beside him, before he finally opens his mouth. 

“No, we’re not having... That’s - We’re fine!”  The  dentist holds a string of floss between his fingers, moves toward his mouth, and Mako’s stuck with his messy attempts at words once more. “Wehe juss naw intested in marwaige righh now.’

“Well, don’t wait too long!  I saw your brother a few weeks ago and it sounds like he and his wife are trying hard to get a family started.  Don’t want to get too far behind your little brother now, do you?” He says with a laugh and Mako desperately tries not to squirm in his chair.

“I gave him a few tips I swear by - I’ve got three sons and a daughter myself - so I know a thing or two about making babies.”  The dentist turns away to dispose of the floss before leaning back in, far closer than is necessary, and whispers, “Standing up during the act is the trick for boys. Only had my daughter after my wife injured her ankle and we were limited to the bed!” His dentist winks, leans back in his chair, and laughs loudly again.

Mako manages to get out an unsure “Uhh.”

“Your brother’s a genuinely nice guy, by the way.  He explained your family situation last time he was here,” he says, pausing to get the spinning device ready to paint mint flouride over his teeth (and Mako wonders how, how in the world did Bolin manage to tell that story when Mako’s not even sure of what to do with his tongue while the dentist maneuvers about his mouth and can barely get out an “uhh”). “Sounds like you did a great job raising him.  I’m sure those skill will transfer over when you decide to become a father.”

Mako’s not quite sure of what to make of this information - the fact that his parental skills are being complimented in the context of Bolin sharing their backstory while discussing his and Opal’s sex life with their dentist  - but the tiny amount of warmth he feels in his chest at the compliment is still nice. “Tank yooo, surh.  Tat’s, uh, vehy kind uh yooo.”  

“Of course, of course,” the dentist says as he sets the spinning wand off to the side and removes the bib from around Mako’s neck.  Despite the nice compliment at the end, Mako still finds himself climbing out of the chair before it has returned to its fully upright position.  This is a good note to end on, he thinks, as the dentist prattles on about a flouride rinse for adults and switching to an electric toothbrush before Mako makes the walk back to the front desk.

Mako’s just about finished scheduling his cleaning six months out from now with the receptionist, thankful for the escape from awkward questions while experiencing some slight concern for just how much Bolin over-shares with semi-strangers, when his dentist pops around the corner.

“Say ‘hi’ to your brother for me. And share that tip with him again - I know he’s working hard with his wife to make something happen!” 

“Uh, right. Yes. I’ll, uh, remind Bolin of your... advice...” 

Mako leaves, wondering how long it will take him to wipe the memory of his dentist sharing sex tips with him from his conscious (hopefully not the full six months until his next cleaning).

But at least he has that “nice, clean teeth” feeling to get him through the day.

A/N: Somehow the dentist sort of turned into Major Armstrong from FMA, so that’s who I had in mind while writing him.  While I was too lazy to look up real dentist stuff, I did stick my fingers in my mouth to try and get Mako’s words sort of right. That’s devotion, right there.And that pregnancy myth is a real thing. (Apparently, according to Not Real Science, having sex in a north facing bed increases the likelihood of having a boy as well. The more you know! ミ☆)

Mako unlocks the door to their apartment as quietly as possible, feeling the tension drain from his shoulders.  It’s late, it’s been a long week - getting home from the station at 3am on a Friday night is less than ideal, but at least he’s home. 

He gets ready for bed quickly and tries to slide into bed beside a sleeping Korra as quietly as possible.  He’s just settling in, head heavy against his pillow, when the bed shifts beside him.  The sheets rustle as Korra rolls over to face his back, her hands warm on his skin when she snakes her arm over his chest, palm flat against his stomach. 

He expects that to be it, and it is, for a moment, before she’s placing kisses to the back of his neck and shoulders, and her hand starts moving over his chest, trailing over his arms, sliding down his hips.  Suddenly Mako isn’t as tired as he thought he was before. 

Korra whispers a “hi,” low and warm against his skin, before she’s gently tugging at his shoulder to make him lie flat, her leg slipping over his own as she moves to straddle him, and Mako can’t wait to feel her weight on his hips, watch her unravel under his hands and mouth, kiss her— 

“Wait, Korra, I’ll be right back,” his words come out slightly muffled, his usually precise speech dulled around a mouthful of plastic and wire.

Korra just laughs as he shifts her off of him and shuffles to the bathroom to take out his retainer.

Sleeplessly embracing / Butterflies and needles

It starts unexpectedly, almost like an itch in a place she can't quite reach. 

Thinking of faded memories at the mention of soft triggers, like places he liked or words he always overused. She doesn't think of much of it, chalks it up to nostalgia and too many grey days spent inside, alone, too heavy a silence, pressing, pushing things left to collect dust in the recesses of her mind back into the cavity of her chest. 

Line my seamed-up join / Encased in case I need it / In my stomach, for my heart /Chain mail

She's been single for a while now, content on her own, with one toothbrush in the cup beside the sink, one pillow pushed to the floor in the middle of the night when she takes up the entirety of the bed. A place of her own, a life of her making. 

It’s not a constant ache or an incapacitating longing;she gets through most days just fine. She’d even go as far as to say she’s pretty happy right now.  But some days…

Hunger of the pine / Hunger of the pine

(She wakes up in a cold bed and swears she can still feel his arm thrown over her, his faint breathing on her neck, the weight of him next to her.  On those days she finds herself walking toward the station just around when she knows he used to get off his shift.)

Sleeplessly embracing / Yawn yearns into me / Plenty more tears in the sea / And so you finally use it / Bedding with me you see at night / Your heart wears knight armour

She works with the Metal Benders sometimes, appears when choas creeps too close to the city, helps when Beifong calls her in, even if it's begrudgingly. 

She works with a younger member, Jin, a man close to her own age who blunders and stumbles with his words, but is bold in actions. At twenty-four, he still looks too tall for his build, like he hasn't grown into his skin, but he's quick, adept in fights, a good partner. 

He makes small talk she only half-hears, her pulse quickening when they turn the corner and enter a stretch of desks. She hates how familiar she’s become with this particular always too-warm room, how the smell of cigarette smoke lingers no matter how many windows are open, and how words that pierced like knives and the sound of breaking wood (crashing, breaking, broken) still echo in her ears years later.

She gives a slight nod and barely-there smile to the gold-eyed firebender sitting at the end of the row of desks.  She had seen him glance up at her as they entered, before returning to his paperwork and only looking up again when she was the appropriate distance away to give a slight nod and barely-there smile back.  

Sleeplessly Embracing You

They walk past his desk and she pretends she can't feel his downturned gaze follow her from the corner of his eye.

It’s almost funny - in a way that tastes bitter in her mouth, make her muscles twitch around a huff, a smile - how this interaction is completely normal for them now.

Almost.

Realization grew on me / As quickly as it takes your hand /To warm the cool side of the pillow / I'm there for you, be there for me / I'll hum the song the soldiers sing / As they march outside our window

After hours, outside the station, she finds him, back pressed against the building as his lips circle around a cigarette (not a habit, just on the rough days, he says).

His mouth parts, the smoke escapes between them, clouds the night air, further blurs what was always left unclear.

It's there for him too, that ache, she can see it, on his face, in his eyes, across his skin as it prickles in goosebumps when she traces her fingers over the edges of his scar.
