It has not been entirely lost on us that in the last few weeks the PCU, or rather we should accurately put it the un-recyclable refuse of the PCU that refuses to be flushed away, have been rather busy making what one of our contributors here has described as a “Psyop” which we find hard to dispute.
Or for our more savvy internet lingo readers they are “Gaslighting, Gatekeeping and Girlbossing.” In essence, trying to set the narrative in true PCU fashion and determining the parameters of what is “right” and “wrong”, controlling or the aforementioned “gatekeeping.”
From the most recent attempt (which has yet to be derailed, but it is early days) there has been an overwhelming rejection of the narrative being put forward in “Just ignore it.” for a number of very valid reasons ranging from impracticality to outright rightly pointing out trying to infringe upon a player’s play time is actually breaking the terms of service Blizzard lays out for us all.
Not even the heavy hitter PCU posters could muster an effective response, no doubt internally screaming to themselves as yet another Ebon Onslaught/Veilbound Vigil poster tars themselves and rolls around in feathers for everyone to see.
They choose the most hypocritical thing to zero in on. Altposting.
Imagine being girlbossed by someone who has altposted nearly 10000 meaningless messages on the forums and another who changes their main every three months yet somehow retains the same backstory and personality.
“Yikes”, we think is the right the word for this.
We cannot help but find some irony in Shauna - a former officer in the Rotgarde itself preaching highly about ostracising people, a guild which culture at its core was based around bullying others in the Perroy era.
While we do agree with the core principle - cooperation is vital for a healthy rp community this was not what was ever practiced by the PCU, or ever has been. Their stance has always been to the effect of - “we are superior, because we are superior(?), we have the greater numbers, the greater ability to use NPCs and to organize cookie cutter rp pvp campaigns thus we should dictate what is allowed, what isn’t allowed in this rp space.”
Only now that monopolistic hold on the Horde has slipped and now former PCU players are finding themselves blacklisted (often rightly so) for the deeds they either directly took part in or passively condoned. Perhaps some public display of contrition would assuage the many slighted parties, though this is unlikely to ever happen.
The most succinct piece of advice however came recently with a very Laconic line.
Sometimes the most straightforward advice is the most difficult, Frolbar. And these types of threads are set to continue, with PCU and peripheral PCU members trying their senseless efforts to gaslight the wider community into thinking that the only good experiences are with them, and all outside the PCU are inherently bad.
