EBTcardGender Pride Flag “EBTcardGender is a xenogender related to having an EBT card. this is an exclusive xenogender. only people who have an EBT card or are poor/in poverty can use this label."
Just argued about whether or not food stamps should exist with a person who’s parents own two Teslas (one for every day and one for date nights)
I remember when I was on SNAP (food stamps) it didn’t matter what I’d buy, people gave me looks. They judged me no matter what. With the news about Trump trying to get rid of SNAP and replace it with a government box of food, I’ve seen a lot of comments from people judging those who receive SNAP benefits.
First the idea is terrible. There’s way too many people with food allergies, dietary restrictions and not to mention we are a free nation where the government doesn’t choice what, when and how we get to eat.
When I was on SNAP I would normal buy organic foods as often as possible. I was lucky enough to have a small local farmers market less than a 20 minutes walk from my apartment, and they accepted SNAP.
I would get people staring and judging me, giving me dirty looks. I even had 1 woman say to me “I love that you can spend my money and get organic meat, must be nice.”
But on the flipside when people would see me buying some tater tots and hotdogs (when I knew I was gonna be babysitting for my friend or when I knew I had a long work week ahead of me and I wanted to have quick food to eat) they would also give me that same look of disgust. Again I had some old white lady say to me “you’d think if you’re spending my money to get food, you’d at least get something healthy but trash is trash.”
There’s no winning with these people.
First, I have no idea why they think they’re $20 a year (yeah that’s about as much of their yearly federal taxes go to SNAP) is making that big of a difference in my life personally. Second, you have to be working a certain amount of hours to even qualify to get SNAP benefits. So it’s not as if I was sitting on my ass all day playing GTA and eating mini donuts. I too was paying those same taxes.
Another comment I’ve seen going around is people saying “Food stamp day”
First of all “food stamp day” isn’t a fucking thing. Everyone receives their SNAP benefits on an EBT card on a different day of the month, based on the last digit of their SSN.
Second, you have to be working, going to school, volunteering or disabled in order to qualify for SNAP benefits.
Lastly, I wish these people would learn how to use proper grammar. I don’t think I can read one more run-on sentence lol.
Okay, let’s get this straight. SNAP benefits are on an EBT card. You CAN NOT get this money out in cash. You can only use this card to buy EBT eligible items which is usually whatever UNCOOKED food you can get at grocery store (or some farmers markets). So Unless someone’s drug dealer is willing to trade their drugs for food, this wouldn’t work.
“They don’t work” but yet they have a “luxury car.” Also, does anyone else notice that the only people who supposedly witness this “blatant abuse” are whiny ass white ladies??
And even if these people are buying shrimp (which isn’t a luxury food, at least not where I live) and lobster, who the fuck cares. They only get a certain amount of money in SNAP benefits each month. If they want to waste it all for 4 days works of lobster and steak than let them. They’ll be starving the rest of the month.
Food stamps aren’t like the bottomless fries you get at Red Robin, Sandra. Each person has a limit and once they reach that limit each month, they don’t have any money until the next month.
And to end this long rant I’d like to say that all the money I received from the SNAP benefit, I am now paying it back. Why? Because someone fucked up and gave me benefits when I didn’t actually qualify for them. I wasn’t working enough hours (I was only working part time, which is why I needed the benefits because I was dealing with some medical issues at the time. And I didn’t know this made me unqualified to receive them) but this dumbass didn’t do his job right and he still approved me for 6 months of benefits. Now, I have to pay them back because of his mistake. And I have been paying them back (since March of 2017) - It’s considered an “agency error”
Here’s an article about another woman who was also ordered to pay back food stamp benefits after an agency error gave her over $5,000 in benefits that she wasn’t suppose to get but they fucked up and gave it to her anyways.
So Sandra, you’re fucking tax dollars didn’t give me shit.
And if you’re still not satisfied with all the information I’ve given you can check out THIS which goes over the myths, misconceptions and facts about food stamps.
It’s ridiculous that food cards [food stamps] won’t buy you precooked food from places like walmart, because it’s literally cheaper on the government, a fully cooked rotisserie chicken with seasoning is cheaper than buying all of the ingredients to make yourself a chicken dinner.
You have to buy seasoning, oil, the chicken, you have to cook it, instead of just buying a $5 precooked chicken at walmart, you must pay more than double to cook the same thing.
This is costing the government more money and it is directly penalizing poor people. Many people on snap benefits [food stamps] are on them because of either disability or their job doesn’t pay enough, and usually are overworked. They are being punished for being poor.
certain states try to restrict what a food card can buy so much, and it really fucks disabled people over, for instance some states either don’t allow for microwaved meals to be bought or are trying to make it so a food card cant cover them, which is absurd because ... if you’re disabled it’s kind of fucking hard to cook a full meal for yourself, if not impossible.
Restrictions on poor people’s diets is violence. Just because someones poor doesn’t mean you should police how they should eat. Would you fucking want to live on nothing but rice and beans for the rest of your life because you’re disabled and thats all you can afford?
would you want to never have any sweets or easy to eat snacks because you’re too poor and too disabled to afford such things even for your birthday or special occasions. Or would you want to only be able to afford frozen/canned vegetables never being able to taste a fresh salad or even a fucking apple?
Because lawmakers think poor people, and especially poor disabled people don’t deserve fresh fruits and vegetables, snack foods, cake, and the list goes on.
We are people who cannot work because we’re disabled and you are punishing us for it. Some of us need easy food to eat, some of us need fattening food to eat because we’re underweight, some of us need special diets due to allergies, and restricting what all people on food cards can eat can get people killed.
yall, if you’re poor n have the energy to, apply for an EBT card [food stamps] worst case you don’t get it, best case you have more money for food. I know it’s stressful, and asks a lot out of you, but please don’t assume they’ll reject you before applying, and you can always dispute your case, food is a necessity, and I know everyone says it’s very difficult to get on these, but please try, the same goes for SSI, and other forms of disability money/any welfare Please apply if you have the energy to, ask for help if you need to, you can go to dhs for the EBT thing, and social security for the disability money, and they’ll help you fill these things out and tell you what you need. Please try to apply for these things, don’t just assume you won’t get them. I know it sounds like a waste of time, but the best case is you get more money for food and survival.
