Underrated thing about reading fanfic in a language you've just started learning is how charming it is to discover extremely bite-sized pieces of angst or whump.
If I read in English or French, I'll get through a 7k fic in maybe 20 minutes, but I've been making my extremely slow way through a 7k Chinese fic for days and it's like. Three paragraphs of the Character in Extreme Pain at a time. You'd think it would be frustrating but it's actually a very pleasant experience 10/10.
