the sexual thing yall see in travlot is abuse. it is abuse. travlotnat is not a love triangle nor travis is sexually attracted to lottie. he doesn't see lottie in edible complex because he secretly wants her. he is traumatized. surely the scene represents him being stuck in between what lottie and natalie represents to him, but materially, he is also having visions of one of the people who sexually assaulted him while having sex with his girlfriend. his idea of sex and intimacy have been violated, it is not far off at all to assume that is why lottie appears to him during sex. it is not an unheard thing, it can and does happen to victims.
i also want to delve into more to travis being stuck between natalie and lottie and how that translates to the sex scene in edible complex but i think i need a day or two for that lol. but it is not a suprise that lottie appears like a guiding figure he cannot touch and be present as he is with natalie. lottie shines a light in the room (just like travis' faith in her brings light to travis' dire circumstances) while natalie brings him back to reality. and the scene is pretty dark when it is the two of them -so much so that i had trouble finding good shots of travnat from it-. natalie's touch anchors him. when travis is able to focus on natalie, that is when visions of lottie leaves him be. natalie's realism literally pulls him out of faith and it is a hard dilemma; lottie brings both light (faith in javi surviving) and horror to the scene, travis is disturbed that she is there at first. how could he not? lottie is tied to the night what he deems as him having hurt natalie and the hurt he represses regarding his assault. and now one of the girls who violated him are in the room the first time he is "able" to have sex with her girlfriend, there to remind him that he hasn't escaped what has happened to him that night like he acts like he has. just like javi going missing in doomcoming, what happened to him, travis, is also weighing on him much to his dismay.
then lottie soothes him. she looks less and less of a sexual being in the scene where does that and more so the "motherly", and to me god-like, figure she has been called in interviews. i think there can be another read of that scene with lottie guiding travis to lay down and take, but that is my interpretation.
also, there is a lot to say about the events that lead travnat to have sex that night. natalie wins the argument her and lottie have been having about javi by cheating, she is lying to travis. and she "wins" travis, in a way. natalie is deeply shameful of what she has done later on but she has being deceptive with him because she saw travis slipping, in general and with lottie.
is this anything
