CANDYLAND AMUSEMENT PARK AT NIGHT, where we are the amusement. Wheels within wheels. We are all wheels within wheels. Queer, gay, strait-trans, intersex, cis-kinky or vanilla-polyamorous, polygamist, monogamous-PoC or white. Our identities are wheels within wheels that are ever changing, they're fluid. But we are taught that we are one thing only from the day we're born to the day we die: strait, vanilla, cis, monogamous. Once you discover that your wheels are different than that totally proscribed identity that is in nearly every movie, TV show, book, graphic novel, cartoon, you are cast at sea and your Candyland adventure begins to take strange twists and turns you'd never realized existed. You discover amusements you'd never heard of. Hidden ways to live your life, hidden bc the dominant culture subtly punishes those who are different. How sweet my life is now that I've accepted who i am, but that sweetness has a price, but one I'd rather pay than the price I paid trying to fit my round wheels into square grooves. It's my roller coaster and i will enjoy the ride despite how hard our culture makes it on me. CANDYLAND SUCCULENTS - when I first saw these thru my viewfinder I thought they looked like they were part of another world. The more i do my art the more i feel like i am uncovering a fairy world just beyond our normal range of vision. I feel like I'm beginning to see glimpses of that world IRL too sometimes. Today I felt the Mother Of My Heart visit me. She died last year and I adopted her cats. We talked about the cats, and other things. Candyland is about how the sweets in our life can also hurt us esp if we partake of them too often. The candyland succulents look like a prickly bed. Many ppl in this world have been toughened by their experiences, either bc they live amongst violence, or because they're different in some way, like being lgbtq. We lay in our prickly beds but they don't hurt us like they could coz life has thickened our skins. But still late at night alone, or with other ppl like us, we cry tender tears.
