Me whenever I see fanart of the TOS crew

So the 3-legged guy who came to take Boimler and Tender to "The Farm"...at first I thought he was a member of Species 8472 because of his three legs and his height (and I was like WHAAAA-?!), but some Googling revealed that he's an Edosian like Arex from TAS. So now one must consider if the two species share a common ancestry. 0.o

  That is definitely a theory! I mean, there was a whole episode in Voyager that was about sentient dinosaurs from Earth as a species in the Delta Quadrant so perhaps there’s some very distant relation.

That being said it would have to be very distant because Species 8472 occupies fluidic space. While there is not a lot of information on the Edosians,  Memory Alpha does mention that they have a place of origin, presumably a planet called “Edos” in the Alpha Quadrant.

  Species 8472 also has shape-shifting abilities as was evident in that one episode “In the Flesh” where we got to hear that beautiful line (“It’s Pon Farr Night at the Vulcan nightclub”) and unless the canon changes, it is not mentioned that Edosians have that ability.

This simply could be an instance like it is with a rabbit and a hare; while they do kind of have a physical resemblance, they could be so distantly apart that they are not genetically compatible with one another. I am interested to see if they will take the Endosians anywhere in Lower Decks

And considering that they brought forth Anthony The Lizard Baby from VOY we can have a small hope that Species 8472 may make a grand appearance as well.
