​Once again, I would have loved if they'd kept it in the final cut 💝

Ultra Broke: The symbiote makes Peter angry and bitter, so he lashes out at everyone around him.

Broke: The symbiote exacerbates the resentment Peter already feels deep inside, serving as an outlet for what he already feels.

Neutral: The symbiote serves as an allegory for addiction, specifically substance abuse.

Woke: The symbiote is a creature that bonded to Peter in a mutually beneficial relationship and Peter just freaked out when he learned it was alive, leading to the symbiote resenting him.

Ultra Woke: The relationship dynamic between Peter and the symbiote during the black suit arc can be effectively paralleled to a toxic romantic relationship.

Partner X (the Symbiote) gets together with partner Y (Peter) under the idea of a beneficial arrangement. X, with the genuine intention of being helpful and make partner Y happy, takes away Y's autonomy without their consent, and when X declares their love (represented by the symbiote bonding process), Y rejects them entirely and dumps X. X then harbors resentment, hate and a twisted form of love for Y and ends up getting together with partner Z (Eddie) who has ALSO been scorned by Y. This is a rebound for X, where both X and Z exacerbate each other's anger toward Y in a hate-loop, until eventually X learns to let go of said hate and grows to genuinely love Z.

I just realized that this is the first time Eddie referred to him and Venom as "we" and Venom even said "we?" after since it caught him off guard, and I think that's when he knew that Eddie was his perfect host

Oh dude, you KNOW I already had Eddie on my list! I wanted to do Peter first, though, so my choices made a little more sense in context.

Eddie Brock - Venom

A very big part of Venom's early character is that he's everything Spider-Man is, except bigger, stronger, and more threatening. So with me making Spider-Man a spider monkey, I wanted Venom to also be a primate. Baboons are a species of Old World monkey, and generally larger and tougher than New World monkeys like spider monkeys.

Olive baboons in particular have a few features I thought went well with Venom. Firstly, they are active hunters that consume a pretty decent amount of meat as part of their diet, which gets across Venom's predatory-ness. And they have a pale yellow-tan color scheme that I wanted to use for Eddie's blonde hair. Also, I had a primatology professor last year who did research on olive baboons so I got to know a little about them, and just thought it'd be fun to draw one.

Whenever I draw Venom, it's always like the pen takes control of my body and I can bang it out so quickly. That's what happens when you do nothing but draw Venom for a year straight as a teenager
