Oh i know it by reputation of course (not least thanks to some gentle persuasion from#@thisbluespirit that i should make it a priority to watch). But most of what i know about the series seems to be centred on the first two#Surviving episodes (for a long time the only ones readily available on home video I'm guessing) and I've never actually watched them so..#Here goes. This one is fun in a slightly gloopy and far fetched terror sort of way. But what a cast! Even the small roles have great actors#In them (always lovely to see Hawkins turn up as a grump and my Brothers mvp Wilson made me very happy). For all that the effects and the#Melting aeroplane are a bit silly the actual tone is surprisingly grim. I mean this begins with a plane crash. Oh and what a beginning too#The fade from the crash into the video static and ominous theme of the opening titles? An editing masterpiece#Our characters are still only briefly sketched in here but I'm sure i will come to love them all. Especially Robert Powell's Toby Wren.#Gosh i hope nothing happens to him..... (ok maybe i know one other thing about Doomwatch)
