I want to freeze my eggs before I start t/get my hysterectomy but will that delay my medical transition? How long does it take to freeze your eggs? How old do you have to be? Is there a mandatory time you have to wait between the procedure and starting testosterone?
The medical process of egg freezing takes around 3 weeks to complete, but it will also take a little while to organise.
Restrictions on who is eligible for egg storage largely depends on how it is being funded. If you are wishing to receive NHS funding then any restrictions will vary depending on the CCG which you come under. This also includes minimum ages, as some may effectively have no minimum age (but will need you to have completed puberty) and other areas may have a minimum age such as 18.
You would also need to consider whether there are any restrictions on how long they will fund egg storage for. This varies quite a bit as well, with some areas not having any restrictions, and others having restrictions such as 3 or 10 years. If you would be funding storage yourself then you need to consider the cost of storage and how long you could feasibly do this for.
As far as I am aware there is not a set time that you would need to wait between having your eggs extracted and commencing testosterone therapy, but it may be wise to leave some time to allow your hormones to settle and adjust to avoid a huge shift.
