Am I the only one who took issue with the "you were made to fight" parallel cuz like sorry but he absolutely was not!!! he is a malewife who was made to grow flowers!!!!

(also it felt like it undermined his point in the first one about affirming who she is and then also undercut the line later that "your boy has learned to fight"?? No? Just me????)

I think what I love the most about the Enola Holmes movies is the humanization of the Sherlock Holmes’ character — both from Sherlock himself and through Enola.

Sherlock has always been a fairly cold and calculating machine. A detective above all else. Consumed by the hunt of mysteries.

These movies soften him, warm him, breathe life into the character in a different way. Because he can’t just be a detective. He can’t just be a tool in an investigation. He can’t just be a name in a newspaper headline.

He’s an older brother, a guardian and a caretaker (in loose terms because Enola is stubbornly independent). Despite all his talk about not getting emotional, he has to have some level of emotion to keep Enola safe. He wants to keep her safe. Because he cares about her.

I just love to see this rendition of the Sherlock character. A more human Sherlock that A.Conan Doyle didn’t write because it didn’t fit into the narrative at the time.

Also Enola is a foil to the Sherlock stigma. She breaks the mold and shows that you can be human with deep human emotions and still be a great detective. She’s a more relatable sleuth. A sleuth that makes mistakes, but can still get the job done.

She and Sherlock find this wonderful balance, and I’m just obsessed.

I think I need to read the Enola Holmes books.
