Darkside Disney: Eilonwy
(Sorry, it's been a while again! Pushing through this burnout, might not be able to do all the Darkside Princesses people suggested in time for this years Halloween, but I will save them for next year if so!)
This version of Eilonwy lost Gurgi and Taran when the Horned King was able to throw Taran into the Cauldron after Gurgi jumped in to end the reanimation spell. The King escaped as his castle crumbled around him, and Eilonwy was left bereft of two of her new dearest friends.
Heartbroken at how unfair it was that her friends had lost their lives only for the Horned King to escape to plot another day, Eilonwy became determined to not only stop the Horned King for good, but to find a way to undo the deaths of Taran and Gurgi. The Cauldron holds them, the Cauldron can restore life, the Cauldron is the key to ending the Horned King, and Eilonwy is the one who holds the Cauldron now.
If she knew how to weild its power, she could have all she deserved, restitution, and revenge.
But for that, she would need to learn much more magic than the mere spark that lit her bauble.
And so, bidding fairwell to Fflewddur Fflam, who was too heartsick and old to quest anymore, Eilonwy traveled back to the one place she was sure could prepare her for confronting the Horned King, and show her the path to unlocking the Cauldron's secrets--the swamps of Morva.
But one does not enter an apprenticeship with the Witches of Morva and expect to walk out the same as they came.
And a heart full of sorrow and rage, and a determination to break the bonds of death itself, are dangerous things to bring within the sphere of the Cauldron's influence.
Eilonwy finds not only a fine education in the Dark Arts in Morva, but a powerful Patron as well. One who's powers when combined with her own promise to bring her to bring her all she seeks.
For the Cauldron is the tomb and prison of Arawn Death-Lord, and he is always seeking to be free. His last lieutenant, the Horned King, sought to keep his power for his own. But perhaps his new one will prove more worthy. She is already more valuable, as within her flows the blood of the old High King Gwydion, who bound Arawn's spirit within the Cauldron. Blood that could set him free at last, to rule again over all Prydain...
