Prompt 5

There was no food, no strength, a cold night, I felt hollow and transparent, all I heard was silence, i died inside.

Many ignore what they cannot see.

Activity for the picture book ‘Dust’:  Before the children read the book, based on the front cover, i will get them to write a sentence about what they think the book is about. They will then draw a picture based on what that they think they might see in the book. We will share and discuss all the different predictions.

Week 7 Reflection:

Researching a #hashtag.

This weeks activity is to research a picture book using the TUMBLR hashtag.

One picture book I was hoping to find using the hashtag was “Tales of Peter Rabbit and his Friends”. Especially since it was discussed in my week one reflection.

Luckily it did pop up when using this hashtag. When typing in the #picturebook in the search bar I came across a blogger who collects everything relating to Beatrix Potter and all her stories. If you would like to follow them their name is @peterrabbit2007. By looking through what they have posted, you can see why so many people born in the that era to now loved the stories because of the illustrations and the way the books where written for each character. 

I would happily recommend this book and/or the tv series to anyone young and old.

Week 4 Reflection:

Classroom Displays-

Having a classroom displays is a great way fro students to learn about different learning topics.

Good Content to have within the classroom for students to continue their learning would be having a topic called “Around the world”. This will allow students to see where their class mates background are from and to also learn the food delicacies and their languages.

Week 2 Reflection

This week’s prompt was to design a prediction activity that goes with a cover of a particular book. The book chosen is “Are you seeing me?” by Darren Groth. A prediction is an activity that learners carry out before they start reading and or listening to the text and predict what will happen in the story just by looking at the cover of the book. Then they will confirm or deny their predictions. 

A good prediction activity for the class or a small group would be to describe what is happening on the cover. As you can see their is a lot going on in the cover. As they start thinking of what might happen in the story, their ideas will be written up on the board and by the end of the book they will see if their predictions are correct.

Prompt 3

For this weeks reflection I would like you to make a list of all the different ways you have made meaning from text, in the last week.

Reading is a big part of my everyday life and I must say I read just about everything. Some of the ways I can remember making meaning from text in the past week include:

- Books: novels, textbooks

- newspaper

- Internet websites

- Ingredient labels, receipts

- Recipes

- Signs

- Electronic communication: Texts, Facebook messages, emails

I would say my biggest forms of reading are electronic and internet simply due to my nearly constant contact with my phone and electronic devices.
