Skyrim: yeah so you have like 100 different companions and only two of them are interesting and when you say goodbye to your companions they go back to wherever you found them so I hope you remember where you guys first met!
Fallout 4: get this! You get like 10 companions, most of them are interesting at least in concept, and you can send them to one of your hundreds of thousands of sanctuaries, one of which is the neighborhood you lived in before the war, but not only will sending them there make them incredibly difficult to track because it’s kind of massive and they’ll just wander all over BUT ALSO you can never send them back to where they used to live if you EVER let them go to sanctuary so say goodbye to Nick Valentine’s detective agency because he’s never going back.
Fallout New Vegas: you get 5 companions, all of them are very compelling characters who you love, you CAN send them back to where they came from OR y’all can live together in an apartment like a found family. Huh? The gay boy? No, you’re never gonna see him again. Why do you ask?
Oblivion: …the fuck is a companion? You want a companion? Fine, I’ll give you a companion. He’s a blatant knockoff of Buddy from the Incredibles. You cannot get rid of him and he cannot die. Ever. Have fun.
