#30DaysMagicalRoots Challenge - Day 18
Over on the Any Witch Way Discord, the mods have decided to run Plentiful Earth’s #30DaysMagicalRoots Challenge for the month of April. The challenge is a way to revisit your magical roots, or explore different aspects of magical practice if you’re new to it.
Day 18 - Elemental Magic
Spend some time today working with and acknowledging the elements of your practice. Do you honor the Land/Sea/Sky elements, or the elements of water, fire, air, and earth, or something else? WHY do you work with those elements and what have they brought to your life?
I work with water/fire/air/earth, because when I started looking properly into things, I came across casting circles as a necessity, and all of the methods I found incorporated those elements. They've worked well for me so far but I'd be interested to hear about other approaches! Focusing on the elements helps me to bring magical intention into every aspect of my life. Even drinking a cup of tea becomes a meaningful act when you think about it in relation to the elements (tea leaves=earth, heat=fire, water is obvious and you blow on it=air!). I have created a morning... thing to honour the elements. I’m going to try it every morning, after I let the chickens out and spend a moment noticing and appreciating nature. It’s a sort of stretch sequence/dance but it’s kind of hard to describe. 1. 💨 Air - Stand with feet slightly wider than shoulder-width apart and knees relaxed. Sweep arms in a clockwise motion across the body and up while inhaling, then round and down to the knees while exhaling. Pay attention to or imagine a gentle breeze blowing away lingering negativities. 2. 🔥 Fire - Slide your dominant foot to bring your feet together as you raise your arms out and up, coming into a ‘pray’ position above your head. Let your thumbs overlap if it feels right but don’t interlock your fingers. Pay attention to or imagine the warmth of the sun, let it power your passion. 3. 🌊 Water - Bring your feet to shoulder-width apart and arms out and down while rotating your wrists until your arms are horizontal (I like to do 3 or 5 rotations, as they’re my magic numbers). Pay attention to or imagine running/flowing water, representing the possibilities ahead of you as your life flows on. 4. 🌱 Earth - Rotating at the elbow, bring your hands up and in then crouch down, touching your hands to the earth (palms flat against grass/earth is best if you can). Imagine energy passing from the earth to you through your hands. 5. 💙 Spirit - Standing, place your overlapping hands fingertip-to-wrist, back to palm with your dominant palm nearest your body and touch them to your chest. Raise and flip your hands (so that your non-dominant hand is now back to you and your dominant palm faces outwards) and bring them to your forehead. Close your eyes and imagine all of the energies you have absorbed being drawn to your heart, then transmitted from your Third Eye.

In our busy lives spent mostly stuck indoors, whether it's at home or in the office, it's easy to feel disconnected from nature. This can not only affect your mood/mental health but also your connection with your deities/spirit guides/ancestors/Higher Self etc, which in turn affects your ability to manifest desired outcomes from your magical workings. This is based on what I've read and how I personally experience the craft. If you feel your practice works just fine without connecting with nature, that's great! Do what works for you, and if you feel comfortable sharing, I'd be really interested to hear other people's approaches.
You can check out my post about staying connected with nature here. And my Elemental Charging Spell here.
I’ve been hesitating to upload anything from the animation project I was working on last semester for reasons I can’t go into, but I talked to the professor recently and he said it was ok to upload our work. So have a piece I did for concept art, where we tried to figure out the overall look and feel we wanted for the film.
