theres a new cute and very promising girlie on commentary at raw
I’ve probably remarked on this before, but I can’t help wondering if One Piece author Oda Eiichiro had a bad family life as a kid or something. (I don’t really want to know, though.) It’s just that almost literally every main character has dead, absent, or neglectful parents. Obviously, it’s anime, so the ‘dead mom’ trope is deeply ingrained, but it goes extra hard in One Piece. It’s practically standard for anime characters to either not know their parents (Luffy), or never mention a thing about them (Zoro), but practically all the other main characters witnessed their parent’s death (in some way). Also adoption being a prevalent theme (Nami, Sanji, Chopper, arguably Law).
BUT ALSO there was a notable lack of married/ child-rearing couples in the modern era, which could have been rationalized due to most of the characters being pirates, marines, etc (not settled down enough to marry), but still seems weird when there’s over like 1000 named characters. Literally the only living married couple (pre-WCI) I can think of was from the G8 filler arc.
I think that’s part of what makes the Whole Cake Island arc so interesting to me: it continues to delve deeper into the dysfunctional family trends seen throughout the series, but instead of “everyone’s an orphan” it’s the exact opposite. Big Mom has like 100 children, and is emotionally (sometimes physically) abusive about their perceived flaws. Then you get to see unfortunate aspects of her upbringing, which just makes the whole thing more terrible. (It seems even villains can’t have a nice childhood.) And that’s to say nothing of the Vinsmoke family child abuse, which is both horrible and also seems par for the course. BUT THEN. Then there’s finally one example, possibly literally the first in the series, of a happily married couple with a child they love: coming completely out of left field, Chiffon and Bege, whom I now absolutely adore. (And poor Pound’s desperation to see his estranged daughter. Fathers’ rights when??) Anyway, to sum up all this rambling: One Piece heavily implies that the only way to amount to anything is to have a really traumatic childhood. That said, Capone Pez stands the best chance so far of having a really uninteresting adulthood, and I say good for him.
I think I’m getting a crush lads
Thinking about Damian who gets called 'a selfish prick without a heart or the emotional capacity to give even a sliver of a fuck' and he just hides how much that hurt him until eventually he comes up to Bruce or one of his brothers crying because is he really that heartless? is he really so selfish and cruel?
Just rewatched Why Is Dating Scary? and...yeah. my idea of Logan being hurt by emotions is only stronger now.
It's painfully obvious when Thomas is talking to him and in his "and yet." It's everywhere and I don't think I could fully list every instance that I noticed.
But it's why, whatever Orange represents, has such a hold on him. Injustice, anger, whatever, but the truth is that Logan has many negative emotions that he either refuses to acknowledge or just doesn't know how to handle.
Yes. Logan is an apathetic dick sometimes. But he's also been hurt by the others, by the more emotional sides. Both things can be true at once, and I don't think some people see that. He wants what's best for Thomas, and he wants to be accepted by the group. He wants the attention and the love the others are getting. But he's being left behind, and I don't think he fully understands why.
Whatever happens. The next bit of Logan's arc is going to crush people. And I can't wait to see it.
Y'all we need to normalize polyamory for when multiple ships have so much chemistry and your multishipper heart wants all of them at the same time so instead of choosing you throw them all into a polyamorous relationship
