Life Update (Entering Med School)

Haven’t been posting here in a while but here’s the quick recap of what’s been happening over the last few months. 

Finished up my undergraduate research and all pre-requisite subjects for medical school

Gathered up really good recommendation letters from college professors and our medical director. Did the leg work to research the various requirements for med school scholarships. Wrote personal essays, filled up application forms and submitted them to my top choice school.

Took the entrance exams, did the interviews (which I found to have been really good actually) and received my acceptance letter to medical school! 

So here it is, it is really happening. After many years and many struggles, I am finally going to medical school!

Life has been great the last few weeks. I started my actual EMT class and so far have met some really amazing people.

Survived my first week of training and aced my first exam!!🥳

Meet: @unbreakable_cat I'm Cat I'm 24. In 2016 I decided to be a firefighter. I had people put me down and tell me I should just stick to EMS. So I stepped on the scale at 252 lbs, signed up for the gym and in 6 months dropped over 40 lbs. Fast forward 3 years, I'm down over 100 lbs with lifestyle changes and exercise. My motivation now is my career. When someone calls 911 I want them to have the confidence in me to provide the best possible care. I also don't want this job to kill me. The amount of stress is in this job can ruin you. A lot of people die from suicide and cardiac arrest in my line of work and that has definitely changed my views on body positivity. I do think it's about loving yourself, but I think it's about loving yourself enough to be the best you that you can be and realizing you take it a day at a time. My hope is that I inspire at least one other person to take control of their life. I'm also hoping to get a health initiative started at work to help out my coworkers so that they have long happy lives. Starting tip: make gym friends that'll help you with understanding health and find “why” other than appearances those fade no matter what size you are. ________________ How has the Wlstories community influenced your journey?
