Coahuila is the leading state in the presence of women in careers related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
According to data from the Ministry of Education, during 2021, the State registered a enrollment of 52,600 female students enrolled in the Higher Education level, especially in the university and technological category of which 14 thousand 728 were pursuing a career related to science.

In Coachuila Girls are Pushed Towards STEM
It was also reported that primary school girls have presented better results in the tests of the National Plan for the Evaluation of Mathematics Learning (PLANE) compared with boys, which is reverted to secondary school and expanded at the end of high school.
In Coahuila, the Ministry of Education, in coordination with the Girls Stem Can Initiative, launched the “NinaSTEM” program, with the goal of motivating more students in their professional development and linking them with science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
This program is aims to encourage students to participate in technology since adolescence, through mentoring.
In addition to these efforts, three young students from Saltillo have been summoned by NASA to join a program.
Lizeth Vallejo. A 22-year-old student of Mechatronic Engineering at ITS, she has become the second female student at this university to enter NASA's International Air and Space Program.
In this 2022 edition, it will be Lizeth's turn to represent Saltillo; the young woman has started a series of activities to pay the cost of 3,900 dollars.
To be accepted, Vallejo presented a project related to the creation of a drone to maintain space units and provide medical help to astronauts.
Last year she also participated in a beauty contest and is also part of the ITS Student Chapter on Mechatronic Engineering that is responsible for generating and disseminating scientific information.
Carolina Garcia Valdes. Student of Industrial Engineering and Systems at the Tec de Monterrey, Saltillo Campus, is 22 years old and is the second saltillense to be accepted in the International Air and Space Program 2022 edition of NASA.
The effort that began in early January was awarded on February 8 when she received acceptance into the program.
Carolina is proud that it is “pure women” who will represent Coahuila in the program that selected only 60 young people from around the world and will be held at NASA's Huntsville, Alabama facility this fall.
To be chosen, she presented a project to develop a device to monitor the brain activity of astronauts and prevent mental illness.
Lizeth Gomez Morales. A 20-year-old Mecatronic Engineering student at the Saltillo Institute of Technology.
To enter, she presented a project related to the design of a material that would be used in astronauts' suits to reduce the impact of radiation on their health.
Lizeth was referred from ITS and became an inspiration for Saltillo as an example of discipline, intelligence and effort.
