I Kinda' Wanna' Kiss Your Boyfriend If You Don't Mind
Art commissioned from Kemmuono.
Here is all of their commission info: https://kemmuono.carrd.co/#
Niles is a very lucky hyena to have two men in his life that love him so deeply.
This AMAZING piece was done by Kemmuono again. I loved their art so much and had to get another piece that was rattling around in my head. We were all listening to Chappel Roan's new album together and Kaynen (the lab) and I had a mischievous idea once we heard the lyrics. I gave the artist a bit of a headache since I wanted so many details but it came out AMAZINGLY. Even included my necklaces! Truly an incredible artist. I included detailed alt text for anyone that wants to read the full scene. Also a textless alternative. If any of you are interested I did write a small prose piece in conjunction with this scene, do you all want to read it? I hope you all have a lovely day!!!
HERE THEY ARE! here's what everyone would be in my own take on monster falls!! you can agree or disagree, it's just me having fun with it :]
my general lore for the au itself would be that the town of gravity falls is cursed, and if you stay there long enough, you get turned into a monster. most people have some reason not to leave before it's too late and the curse becomes permanent, other just give up and let it happen
monsters under the cut!
dipper: deertaur (unchanged from popular fan choice)
mabel: unicorn (unchanged from sorta-popular fan choice)
stan: gargoyle (unchanged from popular fan choice)
ford: mothman (chosen for being a cryptid, ford has mentioned moths multiple times, mothman being a "shadowy figure", stan being able to pass himself off as ford when you see them both in the dark
soos: fairy (chosen for the irony- he has canonically killed a fairy! and also that he calls everyone "dude" when fae usually take names, fae are usually tricksters but he winds up being very helpful around the shack)
wendy: ghost (chosen because she's related to archibald corduroy, the northwest mansion ghost, also that she's "non-commital" to her job and constantly vanishes from it, also ALSO that her first big episode was themed around ghosts!)
gideon: haunted doll/puppet (chosen because he has creepy doll vibes, and puppets are often associated with performance- think puppet shows, pinocchio, ventriloquist dummy- haunted dolls and living puppets also have a common theme of something childish getting a mean streak.) (also, bud would be a fox in this au as a reference to honest john)
pacifica: dragon (chosen for the northwests' miserly behavior, hoarding of treasure, and pacifica's fiery tongue)
mcgucket: robot (chosen for mcgucket's affinity for robotics, and also for the idea that once he starts using the memory gun, he starts corrupting/mass erasing his own technology and has to repair himself using junkyard scraps)
robbie: cherub (he dyes his wings black to seem like some sort of dark angel. chosen for his last name, his hoodie, and his parents' chipper demeanor. they're a family of morticians who choose to spread the love by burying couples next to each other)
"billy-bob cipher": a vessel bill specifically crafted to hunt the monsters in gravity falls. he went with the idea of a greasy redneck hunter, because that would be the form people would be least willing to argue with about carrying a bunch of guns and traps around.
Heated Rivalry, but Shane is a vampire and Ilya is a werewolf. (AU)
My friend and mutual, @maycontainsimonella and I have spent the past few days mapping out and cooking up this AU since he asked me how a vampire/werewolf dynamic would work with Shane and Ilya. And we came up with this entire thing. This is the official AU explanation post through the cast of Heated Rivalry, though some parts are left out due to spoilers. If you don't plan on reading all of that, enjoy this kickstarter fic (with TL;DRs of the cast included) and feel free to check out the ever-evolving series.
Disclaimer: Everything here tries to stay as canon compliant as possible, but it is a fantasy AU, after all. The timeline stays the same, and nothing was cut out nearly as much as extra things were put in.
The first feeding (first fic of the AU).
This can be read standalone, but we will again be following the Heated Rivalry timeline!
The cast.
All of the parents are human except for Irina Rozanova.
Shane Hollander — Vampire.
In the Heated Rivalry timeline, he was turned into a vampire just a few months before he turned eighteen (May 10th, 2009). He was turned into a vampire somewhere between January and February by an ex-junior teammate he made out with—their escapade quickly went South, and Shane was left alone in an alleyway. That teammate ended up moving towns, never to be seen again. Shane kept this secret from his family until Yuna Hollander eventually caught him eating a rabbit. In tears, explaining what happened to him and things of the sort, they've agreed to address things silently. Whenever he stays with his, Shane will wake up with cherry-coloured liquid from whatever animal they caught in a cup by his nightstand. Since then, he's been trying to navigate how to ignore the urges to feed on humans. That was easy until, of course, his first hookup with Ilya. In this universe, if one were turned into a vampire before age twenty, they cannot become immortal. This is an “immature” vampire. Only mature vampires and born vampires/dhampirs (half-vampires) are. Regardless, no matter what type of vampire they are, it's easy to live a bit longer than the average human as long as they do the right things. Animal blood can be sustainable, but it has to come in larger quantities in comparison to human blood. Human food isn't overtly harmful, but consuming it in large quantities or not balancing it out with some kind of blood, there are health risks and it can make their lifespan go down to an average human level. Lower, if its done in crazy amounts, zero moderation. Ilya was Shane's first ever taste of human blood.
Ilya Rozanov — Werewolf.
Technically, half. Unlike Shane, he was born as a werewolf, volkolak, or волкола́к, due to his mother being one as well. Alexei takes after his father, the werewolf gene was essentially “doubled and given to the next person.” Technically, the family's lycanthropy was a generational curse in Irina Rozanova’s bloodline from a witch from long ago. Despite popular belief, lunar cycles only affect werewolves to a certain extent. Depending on which lunar cycles, werewolves are more and less likely to transform, but most transformations are emotions and adrenaline based (emotions like sadness or anger, or any strong emotion, especially ones with physiological manifestations, will make a werewolf all the more likely to transform in that moment). In Russia, the people aren't unaware of werewolves, they're just often hush-hush, especially for women. Women are told to take suppressants every day to prevent their transformations, but unfortunately, if you take more than necessary, there's irreparable damage. When in highly functionally emotional times, or things that would require pushing the already high stamina of werewolves—like, for Ilya, games or intimate encounters—he chooses to take his suppressants. He’s gotten used to transforming alone and keeping it more discreet, as he's had the tendency to claw at himself more than the other objects since he was twelve. For a long time, the only person who saw and stayed with him during a transformation was Svetlana (Alexei and Ilya's father always encouraged the suppressants, so there were very few times after age twelve that they saw him transform).
Svetlana Vetrova — Sorceress/Witch.
Svetlana was born a half-witch (maternal side) making her have to train a bit harder to learn the magical skills she knows now. In Russia, being a sorcerer was highly regarded. However, once it was revealed to the public that Svetlana was a witch, they all just hoped she'd never do hockey, thinking she'd use magical advantages. Her powers became much more of a casual thing as she grew older, so she doesn't often bring them up unless in Russia when it's necessary or advised. Sorcery is more common in the East than the West, so they never become a nuisance (aka, men and women treating her like a case study) in her relationships and escapades whenever she's over there. Being one of the only people Ilya would transform around for a while, she would be around the nights/mornings after Ilya would transform, using healing magic to minimise/fully heal thrashes Ilya made on himself. Healing sorcery, ironically, was the most draining, and if it was after a hookup or some high-ish adrenaline moment for Svetlana (or between the two), she wouldn't expend too much of her power, so there are still a few scars that stick with Ilya to this day. More on her later.
Rose Landry — Siren.
She contains the obvious "supernatural charm" that a siren does. Unlike Shane and Ilya, she can control when she does or doesn't use that siren song. When it comes to her craft, she swears off using any of her siren abilities as much as possible. However, on long days she can't fully endure , or whenever she's just low energy, everyone wants a piece of her, and that gets exhausting. It's like she becomes a magnet of obsession, and she has to isolate herself. In those lower energy moments, Shane has been one of the other people that sees her as who she really is, an overworked movie star (this shined through when they met for the first time), that’s one of the reasons their friendship, and relationship for a time, was so refreshing. However, it only adds to the fact that when Shane sees Rose, he thinks he should want her and convinces himself that he does. They're similar in the ways that their magical abilities can inconvenience them and their craft, but he just can't make himself like her in that way. She remains a big part of his support system: whether it comes to his queerness or his vampirism, she's there for him and vice versa. More on her later.
Scott Hunter — Zombie.
In show canon, when he was younger, his parents died in an accident. In this version, he, too, was in the car and ended up being "the one who got away." Once the cops were called, he was put on bypass. They figured it was about time to call time of death because of the majority trauma, and because of the lack of family they could get a hold of, he was practically a John Doe. After taking him off bypass, he somehow stayed alive. Clinically dead, sort of, but alive. Mobile. Conscious. The doctors didn't discharge him for months until he had enough of a pulse to seem almost-normal. Besides, no other family members picked up the phone to sign a consent form for more treatment in time. Even as he grew, the cuts from the accident never properly healed over, causing him to stitch himself up. He has to beat himself with makeup to hide his sickly paleness, and his eyebags require a lot of attention. He bathes himself in cologne and vibrant fragrances to fix the smell of death that he and seemingly other supernatural entities with heightened senses could smell off of him. There isn't much of a temperature to regulate, as Scott is just a colder person, similarly to Shane and contrary to Ilya. He doesn't need to use the public showers immediately after games, thank God, so he bathes at home. More on him later.
Kip Grady — Human.
There's not much to say about Kip's mortality, but his role is still significant as he knows a lot about the supernatural because of Elena. He's had all sorts of people walk in and out of the shop, so he's no stranger. Kip may never understand certain things, he wouldn't be able to, but he will always try. More on him later.
She has a mentality of "magic is just science we can't explain yet." Born a full witch and being as into tech as she is, she's committed to studying both the logistics and magic, wanting to push how magic is simply just an extension of the things we already understand. She carries these studies and experiments where she works, frequently telling Kip about them. To people who know about her magic abilities, she will bring it up in casual conversation. Though, in the west, finding other emagicked people is a bit scarce, and she'd rather not have excuses to be treated like an artifact, similar to Svetlana. Elena is the most knowledgeable about all kinds of magical entities in comparison to the rest of the cast. More on her later.
