Marble Hornets- Entry #45

Entry 45, 3-2-21
I can’t die yet. I’ll only die when my story is finished. I can’t run away. I don’t know what. Are these thoughts even mine? Are they real? Am I just being influenced by my taste in media?

Civilian Rescue.
(OC: Date [23-08-2016] Day[Tuesday])
Dear diary…
Another mission today. This time is was rescuing civilians. Another mission where I am happy for my armour. Again, I would be dead without it. We manages to kill the demons in the camp and get half of the civilians out to safety. Unfortunately the other half met a fiery end at the hands of a dread lord. It had no reason to kill them other than to just end their lives. Such cruelty is foul. I made sure it suffered before I sent the monster back to the twisting nether. The civilians were kept in cages like live stock. Families waiting to be used as fuel. It was awful. The screams as two of the cages were set alight will stay in my mind for some time.
We made it back to base after the civilians were dealt with and shortly after I saw Sylvarys and Taryane. He seems to be helping her with her illness. Something about a ward and a conflict between fel and light. I didn’t stand around to listen though as that would have been rude. They finished with that and Sylvarys then said something about it being safer in Azshara than at home. I felt a sense of dread as I thought something bad had happened to the city. The legion will reach our gates eventually. The thought of what will happen if we lose makes sleeping difficult.
Sylvarys had Taryane destroy my equipment with her blade before replacing it with what I imagine is the blade and shield Champion Sunstrike said he would provide. I need to thank him when I see him whilst I still can. Syvarys then placed me as an overseer under his guidance. I told him I will not fail him, and I won’t. I am in no position to fail now. Especially given the current events.
He then asked me to get my old armour that was damaged so he could fix it. So I took it to him. I needed to be wearing it so he made me change on the spot. Undressing in front of everybody is not something I wished to have done, but he put an illusion over me so I could retain my modesty. Though He did bring up that time in the lakes of Eversong woods with the huntress I had met. Something I was not happy to hear brought up. A shameful memory but I have moved past it. He walked back over and fixed my armour. He got very close to do so but that didn’t bother me. I was happy and thankful for what he is was doing. I was just happy to see him. But thinking somebody is dead and then seeing them alive and in front of you has that effect. He departed and I went to sit with the others.
An elf showed up who I can only assume is Ara’ni’s new boss as even she saluted him. Unfortunately he is a racist but if he is from the spire, he should be capable enough. Though his lack of combat experience does make me wonder if he knows how to plan and give orders. Then again if he just passed orders from high command that should not be an issue.
I should rest. There is another mission tomorrow. We are going to be aiding the main horde forces.
Yours faithfully

Tales of a Bookworm; Entry #45 (Bookworm Rereads Series)
Eleanor & Park
By Rainbow Rowell
People reread novels all the time, a fact I witnessed to be true in my Topics in Popular Culture class last term. I am not one of those people. I read Eleanor & Park when it first came out, in 2013. I finished the novel in three days, while I should have been reading other books for class. This summer I decided to embark on an experiment: I wanted to reread a book, and why shouldn’t it be my favourite?
This time around, I finished the novel in just under a week. I paced myself, mostly because I didn’t want the story to end. I remembered most of the beginning, and major plot points throughout. However, the final third part of the book was a bit of a blur, and it was almost like reading the novel for the first time. I think this was because I read the book so quickly the last time, and I do remember racing through to the end. This prevented me from absorbing some of the most beautiful and poetic moments of the novel. If you remember the story, it is basically two high school misfits falling in love, but I stand by my original statement: it is so much more than a love story. Eleanor and Park learn so much about themselves through their relationship with each other, as well as what it means to love. They also grow as individuals, as Rowell tackles topics such as poverty, abuse, racism, diversity (or lack thereof), body-image (for males and females), and self-confidence in 1986.
I have no problem telling people Rowell is my favourite author. She has successfully written for adult and young adult audiences and each new novel she releases, I inhale the same way I do when I go out for all-you-can-eat sushi. The first lesson I learned in my high school creative writing class is that you want to “show not tell” for your readers. If you need an example of this: read Rowell. Never have I read an author who can have me so hooked on what is coming next. She has a way of revealing tidbits that seem irrelevant, but later change the plot of the story. Not to mention, her characters are complex and well-developed.
Overall, I am so happy I chose to reread this book, it will remain my favourite. Rereading Eleanor & Park was kind of like re-watching a movie, each time you notice something new you didn’t see before.
Entry #45 Bangkok, Thailand - Goodbye
Entry #45 Bangkok, Thailand – Goodbye
It was the last day of my journey. My flight left at 11pm from BKK, arriving in Tokyo sometime the next morning. After that, I was off to the states. Back to normal life, hanging out with friends and family, paying off the debt looming over my head, working towards something boring dissatisfying. Something inside me has changed. Paul took me out for the day. Showed me all the good places to eat…

At the end of Entry 45, amid the distortion as Alex yells "I'll kill you," there are two frames of the Operator from Entry 40.
