episode 61: An Angry Showdown! Cross the Red Line!

luffy being too stupid to fear death is so very perfect. and zoro's shit-eating grin is great!

i audibly gasped when luffy did this. i wasn't expecting it at all.

i acutally love that luffy takes some scrapes here. very nice for the main character to get some actual battle damage.

INCREDIBLE frame here, literally on screen for a fraction of a second. hilarious blink-and-you'll-miss-it face from luffy here. love the movement lines from nami's fist too.

luffy acting like nothing weird just happened and this is all business as usual is super on brand, and a very solid joke.

usopp freaking out in the background while the rest of the group plans is great. they always have fun with usopp's animations.

i like how zoro's face looks here! it's a good mix of cartoonishly exaggerated but also realistic exertion. oda does this style REALLY WELL!

the donk/bonk/whatever sound effect that plays here is so perfectly comedically timed.

61 episodes in, the show finally starts! love love love it!

it's really interesting how vax is the caretaker in his relationship with the sister — he, objectively, one of the most beaten up characters both by the fault of his own recklessness and the unfortunate roll of the dice. and yet, the moment he gets up and regains senses he goes to check on vex, braids her hair and watches her, following her very step.

all the while spending nights at her door and for a long time not allowing himself a comfort of keyleth's presence after the most traumatic events. i am on the episode 61 and i genuinely want to make everybody see how much he struggles all the while understanding why he doesn't do so himself being so closed off and having "and i walk away" as his default way out of the situations when emotional vulnerability is required.
