episode 63: A Promise Between Men! Luffy and the Whale Vow to Meet Again!

this sucks, man. poor laboon, waiting for his friends who will never return. ugh, this backstory for a fucking WHALE is so good and sad i love one piece.

50 years is... a lifetime. i know i couldn't do it. and laboon is smart enough to KNOW how much time has passed, that's the worst part.

this sucks, knowing they died at sea. crying in the club rn over a whale.

when laboon started howling, my poor heart.... ugh this is so damn good. like i am getting all teary-eyed over a whale, a minor character.

my first thought was luffy is trying to give him amnesia, to make him forget, which seems... practical yet cruel.

i would love to know how they plan to sail from now on.

this is so damn heartwarming. luffy may be an idiot, but he refuses to give on up on his dream, and damn if he'll let this whale give up on his.

this is the first shot after the middle of the episode break, and i don't think i've ever laughed at an episode so quickly. this is so fucking funny. it's SO BAD, BUT SO IN CHARACTER!

a good nami joke here. she's actually intelligent, something sorely missing from the other members.

this made me so happy. laboon is a short-lived tragic character, but i do love him. he's so pure. i hope luffy fights him again someday.

what a fucking bomb drop at the end. crocus might have worked with roger??? insane. i love how a lot of these characters have histories/ pasts that aren't fully/ if ever explained, but we get hints at what they could have done. it adds a lot of subtle worldbuilding.

matt describing vax as — raven-like dagger-wielding champion of the raven queen — when vax decides to use his wings in the battle with sondur just paints such a powerful image. it's this kind of a heroic transition where we know he was skillful and powerful before but this is a different level, beyond and above of what he used to be. but also. there was a path to learn, to accept and to embrace and now he is here in all his glory. a champion.

ep 63 of Critical role made me feel many emotions. The thing it made me feel the strongest however, is sorry for my friend, who has had to listen to far to many voice messages filled with rants about Ludinus fucking Da'leth and how much I hate him. They have the patience of a saint and I love them very much.
