happy new year man. 2025 was too fucking much. i hope 2026 will be better. i've moved across the country with my partner, i'm getting health things taken care of, i spent the holidays with his family, and i was able to grieve in a place that feels safe.

still having seizures, but i have a neurologist and a really good therapist now. i have a week long hospital stay on monday, they're gonna be doing a 24/7 eeg to track my brain waves and shit and to try to induce seizures by taking me off my meds and sleep depriving me. has anyone done that before?

My stay at the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit

So it's done. I made it.

I've come out of it with an official diagnosis of Nonepileptic Seizures and they couldn't find any epileptic events which was good so I was able to completely ditch the topamax. I'm already feeling much more energetic and cognizant than I was before I came into the epilepsy unit.

My stay was pretty rough as those of you who followed my postings already know. But looking back on it I have to say that the experience was really helpful because it gave me answers to the questions I had. The staff that I met were all incredibly kind and accommodating and helped me to accept my diagnosis and reassure me that despite what some may say my seizures are still very real and are not made up or in my head. While I certainly was miserable being sleep deprived and drugged up they went above and beyond to make sure that I was as comfortable as I could be .

I hope that posting about my experience in the Epilepsy monitoring unit, even though I may not have come out of it with an epilepsy diagnosis, might help out others in the epilepsy community who may be coming up on a visit to an EMU and are nervous or wanting more information about what it's like like I was before all this started

Day 2 of my EMU adventure

So the epileptologist stopped by... so far all my brain waves are normal and the only little eventish things they did catch were nonepileptic. Buuuut there still is the teensy problem of me having an abnormal EEG before and Doc wants to reproduce it so tonight I get to stay up and party all night long in the boring blue EMU room and tomorrow they're gonna flash some lights at me and make me hyperventilate again to see if they can poke my brain into having an epileptic seizure this time. I'm gonna be bored out of my flippin mind and my mental health is already running on fumes so tonight is gonna be GREAT!

Epilepsy unit stay day 1

Because @fuckepilepsy suggested I should liveblog my stay I am! I just got in and got settled had an event just before they hooked me up which kinda sucked but hey at least they saw it... I have to be hooked up for an IV in a bit which I am dreading and I'm willing to bet money they aren't going to use it once anyways but they still need it... and I itch already sooo badly! Stay tuned for my decent into madness because I'm gonna be here for at least four days folks!!!

day 2 at the emu!

we did sleep dep. last night so im really tired. got coffee today with breakfast for those yummy caffeine induced seizures.

nurse laughed at me when i stuttered post seizure as if that isnt in my chart of "post seizure symptoms"

so i guess also psa: hey dont laugh at someone whos struggling to speak post seizure. dick face.

Day 4 of my EMU stay

I'm going crazy here. My emotions are out of control and I dont know if it's from cutting off my topamax or the sleep deprivation or just being stuck in this shitty bed for four days straight but I've been going back and forth from being completely ok to inconsolably sobbing and I just dont want to be here anymore. They're going to sleep deprive me again tonight and then try triggering a seizure tomorrow with a big dose of pregabalin because I was on gabapentin when I had my first eeg with the abnormality and they need to be EXTRA SURE that I have just Pnes and not epileptic seizures too before they just set me loose on the world because of that one eeg. They dont even have the tracings either they just have the report and i'mma bout ready to pull my hair out from all the stress I'm under

On a lighter note my girlfriend has been super supportive from long distance and has been letting me video chat with my kitties to help me stop crying
