āWhat if poor people abuse the system?ā
The system intrinsically abuses poor people.
Hope this helps.
honestly itās kind of upsetting how much of the autism experience is just being shamed out expressing yourself in any way thatās normal for you and learning to keep everything to yourself so youāre not shamed for being weird and then being shamed for being so quiet because itās also weird to be quiet but if you tell this to anyone else theyāll say āwhy do you care so much what people thinkā and thatās when the ancient ape part of your brain gets ready to beat them to death
they should make a version of socializing that doesnāt make you feel like youāre still the weird 12 year old kid that doesnāt know why sheās not normal like the other kids
Rules of DIY:
if it's a skill, there's rules you can learn
if it's an art, rules are not your concern
make it fucked up or you won't make it
if it's already broken, you can't break it
anything can be fixed with gorilla glue
except for pleather, and also you
possession horror where the thing possessing the autistic character causes them to behave in a more neurotypical way. autistic possession horror where the thing inside you is easier to communicate with than you are, the thing inside you doesnāt have a flat affect, the thing inside you doesnāt let your body stim, the thing inside you is how you were told to behave and you can only do it when you are no longer you. autistic possession horror where you will never forget that everyone liked it better than you before they found out something was controlling you. autistic possession horror where they know whatās inside you isnāt you and debate whether it would be easier for everyone to leave you like this anyway. you agree. reblog.
I wish depression were an emergency. I wish someone could take one look at how sick I am and go āoh my god, we need to get you to a hospital!ā and then when we get there I get rushed into surgery and the surgeons say āitās a good thing you brought her here when you did, this is a seriously advanced caseā and then they put me under and spend the next ten hours pulling metres of long, sticky black strands of gunk out of my body, throwing it immediately into an incinerator so that it canāt infect anyone else. And then they could stitch me back up and I could rest a few days, and when I leave the hospital everyone can see how much better I am and they congratulate me saying āwell done, youāve been so brave, Iām so glad youāre ok. I love you.ā
Younger writers. Please, just know that you could not skip to different songs on a cassette tape, thatās CDs. With tapes you pressed fast forward or rewind and prayed.
Also, VHS tapes did not have menu screens. Your only options were play, fast forward, rewind, pause, stop, or eject.
Yāall are making me feel like the crypt keeper here, Iām begging you š

Also, courtesy of an otherwise great book set in the 70s I just read: if you're writing about landlines, "blocking" numbers was not a thing. (Without police and exchange-level involvement, anyway, iirc.)
Caller ID (being able to see the number of the person calling) was a Cool Extra Feature that started being available in the 90s and you had to have a phone that could handle it and pay extra for the feature to be activated. And then you just didn't pick up the phone if that number was calling. Nothing you could do about them ringing you. And before that, every call was a mystery. Before answering machines, (a whole separate bit of kit originally) if you didn't answer you'd never know what the call was about.
Some of you might need to watch old films and television while trying to write eras your audience remembers perfectly well. Just to see things in action. Please.
disabled people are worth the extra effort it takes to accommodate them. it's worth going the longer route together that's wheelchair accessible. it's worth the time and effort to research places to eat that work with specific allergies or food intolerances. and it's worth the price if those places or that food is more expensive. it's worth going further to buy something gluten-free or nut free or dairy free for your party or get together. it's worth adding extra travel time, or planning an overnight stay instead of a day trip. it's worth learning how to administer medication for people who need it. it's worth learning how to call ahead to check if somewhere is accessible. it's worth the whole friend group going to the film screening with captions even if only 1 person needs it. disability often means having to do more work, more planning, take up more space, more money, more time. it's false to say it's as easy as having an abled companion, but that effort is worth taking. it's not wasted because it's all spent in favour of a disabled person, and that's always worthwhile
disabled people who do not directly "contribute" to society and need large amounts of care and resources to survive deserve not only to survive but to have comfort, stability, and fun within their lives while they do. no compromises.
doctors: you're going to be in pain forever!!!! you'll never not be in pain so dont you dare expect that!!! but really how is your mental health? dont answer this question in the wrong way or ill have to Make Some Calls. I'm just trying to Help You Get Better. but also you'll never Really be better. This new med should maybe help but if it makes you feel funny stop immediately. see you in 3 months!
'being disabled is a full-time job' actually with most full-time jobs you get evenings and weekends off, plus holiday time and potentially other benefits like healthcare and dental. we don't get to clock off from being disabled nor do we reap any benefits, material, social, or otherwise. hope this helps
