About, mmm, three years ago I took an elderly, nonfunctional saddle of my late mother's out of the barn and decided to remove the girth and other extraneous bits, rehab the leather a bit, and mount it on a stand to turn it into an ergonomic "offic chair" for myself. The chair that I use now for painting and computer use is, I regret to say, a folding chair. It's terrible for me, I know, but it was at the bottom of my list of things to fix or replace.

I drew up a simple wooden frame diagram and asked my husband if he would make it for me. He said yes, set aside a perfect-sized log to dry

and the saddle would have fitted securely over that.

Three years have passed. Recently, one of my cousins visited. He used to work with horses professionally as a young man, and I showed him the painting I recently finished of the saddle rack in the barn. I mentioned that one of the saddles was supposed to have been made into a chair. He said that he had an old saddle that he had been hoping to do the same thing with. "When I make a frame for mine, I'll make one for you, too," he told me with a smile.

And. You know. He meant it. But will he actually DO it? This decade? Seems unlikely.

Earlier this week I ordered an "antlu saddle chair." I shouldn't be in pain ALL the time, and having an appropriate chair instead of that GDDMN folding one would help so much. It arrived today, and assembly was relatively quick and painless.

It feels. SO GOOD. My hips and lower back are delighted.
