Thanks to those big, international soccer games that will be happening for the next infinity weeks, we here at The Sephora Glossy have been thinking about how we get to spend our days immersed in a world of beauty—literally. Sitting on our shelves are premiere products from all four corners of the globe. Today, we’re digging into the history of some of our most cosmopolitan brands. BECKY PEDERSON
SOUTH KOREA Dr. Jart+ BB creams have been lauded as the great skin savior for decades now, and Dr. Jart’s cosmeceutical line can take partial credit for that. With his elite team of dermatologists, he formulates each product with scientifically certified ingredients. Where to start? The Black Label Detox BB Beauty Balm is the company’s bestseller, and it addresses every major skin-care need you can think of.
AUSTRALIA BECCA Hailing from Perth, makeup artist Rebecca Morrice Williams was unimpressed with all the foundations available. So, being an enterprising ingenue, she developed her own range of complexion-enhancing products, like the famous Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Powder.
GREECE Korres Natural active ingredients are the stars of this brand. It all started in Greece’s oldest homeopathic pharmacy in Athens with a pharmacist and his chemist wife. Led by a team of real-life plant hunters, they source herbs and flora from local organic farmers to create award-winning formulas like those found in their Wild Rose masks, cleansers, and creams.
JAPAN Shiseido Fun fact: When Shiseido was established in 1872, it doubled as a restaurant business and is credited with introducing ice cream to Japan. The business no longer dabbles in dairy comestibles, but they still sell Eudermine, the world’s first—and oldest—softening lotion.
NETHERLANDS Viktor & Rolf This Amsterdam designer duo is world-renowned for its surreal, conceptual fashion house, founded in the early ‘90s. In 2005, they partnered with L’Oréal to develop their now-iconic Flowerbomb fragrance, which they’ve spun off into several equally powerful, limited edition perfumes.
SPAIN Desigual Founded in Ibiza, a Spanish island you’ve definitely heard of if you like electronic music and all-night parties, this streetwear company is known for its use of crazy colors. It should come as no surprise that their fragrances, with simply stated names like Fun, are just as flamboyant as their clothing line.
UNITED STATES Elizabeth and James There’s nothing more American than loving Mary-Kate and Ashley! The fashion moguls added sophisticated fragrances to their arsenal this year with Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black and Elizabeth and James Nirvana White, sold exclusively at Sephora.
BELGIUM Maison Martin Margiela Though he leads an intensely private life, with only one known picture of him floating around the annals of cyberspace, Maison Martin Margiela is a big name in fashion. His ‘REPLICA’ fragrances, inspired by his couture collection of the same name, earned instant icon status thanks in part to their expert packaging.
FRANCE MAKE UP FOR EVER Founder and creative director Dany Sanz is an industry mentor with perhaps the most unusual resume around. A classically trained fine artist, she once taught embalmers how to effectively apply foundation—by using an actual corpse as her canvas. Her HD MicroFinish Powder is regarded as one of the best finishing powders in the business.
ENGLAND nails inc. Nails inc. is a veritable beauty empire in the UK, operating more than 60 high-end nail bars in Europe. Their eye-popping polish colors dominate the runways, the pages of glossy magazines, and the tips of more A-list celebrities than you can count. This season is all about the Gel Effect polishes, which feature a range of electric brights and soft pastels.
GERMANY Escada Few brands are as extolled by European royalty as Escada. Launched in Munich in the late ’70s, the fashion house quickly expanded internationally. Their clothing collections inspired a line of luxurious and feminine scents. Especially Escada is a fan favorite, with its pear, rose, and musky notes.
ITALY Acqua Di Parma As a response to the heavy scents that were popular at the time, in 1916, master perfumers developed a fresh, modern citrus cologne in a small laboratory in Parma. The revolutionary scent was met with wide success. The company developed a larger product line and eventually moved to Milan, but Colonia, the scent that started it all, remains a cult classic.

Bar Refaeli for Especially Escada.
Especially Escada Perfume!
If you are anything like me you will absolutely love this perfume, i'm a huge perfume fan as it is, I believe the more you have the better, right girls?!
I don't think you can ignore the beauty of the bottle and how girly and feminine it makes you feel, can you? I love the pink & gold together and I think it's a perfect gift for mothers day or even for yourself, it's reasonably priced too and I think that it's a very signature type scent, so you can imagine walking past someone and knowing that it is this fragrance they are wearing, it's very unique, I think that you need to re spritz a little after maybe 4 hours, but most perfumes are like that!
All in all I think this is a wonderful perfume and I love the exterior too, I will definitely be getting my Mother a bottle of this for mothers day, what about you, what beauty goodies do you think are great for mothers day?
