Will not shut up about Pearline because I LOVE a character who’s so solidly written that they tend to piss us off! Yes I’m talking about the garlic scene!

Pearline gets so little screentime but she uses all of it to plant her feet in the ground as a stubborn, confident woman who will NEVER let herself be pushed around.

Like, everyone in the moving expresses freedom in their own way; When Sammie is told no, he will politely negotiate but still do what he wants. He’ll help his father with Sunday service, but still play at the juke joint. If Smoke kicks him from the Juke Joint, he’ll leave Missouri.

Smoke’s freedom is expressed through money and power, Stack and Mary through violence, Grace through organization and leadership, Annie through her own spirituality (and I’ll argue Annie is the only one who’s not held back by her expression.)

And Pearline says NO. Ask her to sing, and she’ll give you a ‘maybe’ at most. Come on to her, she’ll shut you down with her husband. But she’ll also cheat on her husband, because her fidelity was never about him, it was for herself. So yeah, in a stressful situation where she’s trapped in the mill surrounded by vampires and forced to eat garlic, she’s going to say no, even if it puts her at risk!

Really, everyone grasps onto their expressions of freedom in the mill for survival, and we see the logical conclusion of that, but that’s a different wall of text. Pearline I love you

My favourite conspiracy theory is that CoT didn’t happen. I choose to believe that Jesse’s characterization as a loyal, caring brother remained consistent throughout the series, and that his conversations with Grace in the silent city and with James on the roof went much differently.

Aww, Dakota is really a good fashion icon, she dresses really well. I really like her too. IDK why Lauren reminds me a lot of Carolyn Besette. And 100% yes to Grace and Lauren, they are fashion icons of mine. Old Hollywood was it.
