may as well identify myself as essay anon. i wanted to add that what this community does absolutely is like concern trolling- i don't know if that is the exact term, but i mean the condescending and overinvested way of engaging with a "lolcow." there are no great enough consequences to what they say until something disastrous happens, and until then, this community will keep saying things like "you're just larping as a cutter," "you aren't ACTUALLY going to kill yourself," and "that's too quick for a real attempt." all real things i have read.
then, if they believe something disastrous is happening, like Salem is being abused or maybe he really did make an attempt... they tell him to take a break. they tell him to reach out to friends. they tell him they say these things because they believe he can change. but how could he possibly change in a whirlwind of inflammatory bullshit about his race, gender, and weight being spewed 24/7. i saw this in the lio convoy video with people jumping from abusive to concerned (or sometimes a mix of the two), and i saw this with cwc when people called themselves fans or said they were actually rooting for her. fake and condescending "compassion." it disregards how they contributed to that person losing stability. if someone who shit-talked me every day of the week told me to calm down and reach out to friends when i was upset, i'd think they are the slyest scummiest bully on the planet. it is practically middle school behavior
this community is incredibly overinvested. i can't fathom caring so much about Salem that i have to comment on what he should get checked out. it is not a healthy care, it is sick, condescending, and unhelpful, and that's what makes it so puzzling when they expect Salem to bow down to them. yes, Salem needs to be held to higher standards, but it can't come from a vitriolic community. frankly, i don't give a shit what Salem's daily life looks like because what he does makes me so uncomfortable that i can't imagine interacting in any uplifting way towards him. not trusting in someone means you have to detach yourself from needing to know all the "lore" about them. you can stop at "he is fetishizing rape and incest, he racefaked, and I don't feel safe around him. nobody needs to fucking see his birthday party, i actually don't even really care if he's lying about being ex JW because i don't know this person and that isn't an unsafe part about him as i interact with the art community. when people from this weird community do detach themselves, they feel obligated to say it is because Salem is doing the same things he always does- he lost entertainment value, i can't even laugh at him anymore! well, that is because he isn't a character, he's human. you thought you were signing up for a circus and instead you started to feel bad because you saw someone mentally spiraling and considering doing the worst to themselves and others because of it. not a fun story after all. it's almost like this is real life. if this is how people protect their own communities by keeping abusers away, then i think they're doing a really shit job at it. they aren't the only ones who do "funny analysis" under a burner that they can run away from once the consequences hit
