desire, ever meddling, whispers a lie into dream’s ear: that reader seeks dominion over the dreaming itself. when he confronts her, cruel and cold, her heartbreak is palpable. she leaves the dreaming without another word. only after lucienne shows dream the truth does he realize his mistake. but it is too late—reader has vanished into the folds of the in-between, where even he cannot follow.
you were awake now, moving again. your body restored by divine grace, your magic pulsing gently at the edge of your skin once more. you walked the dreaming’s halls like you never left, like you had always belonged here. but there was something different now.
dream hadn’t spoken to you since.
he hovered. watched. lingered. he sent others to you when information needed to pass. he passed you in corridors and his gaze always lingered for just one second too long, but he never spoke.
your protection of him had left a fissure. not one of pain. of fear.
the kind of fear that only love could cause.
and he didn’t know how to live with that.
desire knew exactly when to strike.
they lounged in their threshold, a cathedral of crimson glass and perfume-thick air. their smile curved, delicate and sharp, a razor dipped in honey.
they ran a fingertip down the mirror’s edge and whispered, “oh, my dear brother, you do bleed.”
they hadn’t meant to look into you too deeply. but once they’d glimpsed your return, your presence inside his realm again, their interest became obsession. desire had always hated how you made dream soft. how you made him reach.
how you made him dangerous.
so they whispered.
just once.
into dream’s mirror, they breathed:
“she’s not here for you. she’s here for what you rule.”
and as always, dream listened when he shouldn’t.
lucienne was the first to notice something was wrong.
dream, once always still in his anger, now paced. he moved like shadow disturbed, like a storm waiting for the drop. when she brought him reports of new tears in dreamspace, he barely heard her.
“she wants dominion,” he said at last.
lucienne blinked. “pardon?”
“she’s here to reclaim influence,” he said, eyes flint-sharp. “her realm is crumbling. she’s inserting herself into mine. balance… yes, but also control.”
lucienne’s mouth opened. then shut. she stepped forward carefully.
“my lord… she bled for you. not her realm. you. she risked her essence to protect—”
“exactly,” he snapped. “a calculated gesture.”
lucienne stared at him. for the first time in centuries, she felt her stomach twist.
“you don’t believe that.”
dream turned away.
which meant he did.
you were meditating when the blow fell.
it came not with fire, but with cold.
not with violence, but accusation.
you sensed him before he entered, but even still, his presence crashed into the room like a wave of grief and fury.
you rose to meet him. “dream.”
he didn’t return the softness. didn’t speak your name.
he stood with arms folded, jaw tight, eyes darker than you’d ever seen them.
“tell me the truth,” he said.
you frowned. “about what?”
“why are you here?”
you stepped forward once. “i thought we already—”
“not the imbalance,” he bit out. “not the collapse. you. what do you want, goddess?”
you froze.
“what do i… want?”
“you want something from me. from this realm.”
“i want to stop the realms from falling apart—”
“you want to bind this one to yours. take what’s left of it and fold it into your dying kingdom. your balance thrives on conquest dressed as harmony.”
your voice broke. “what are you talking about?”
his hands flexed at his sides, restless with some awful, wounded thing. “desire warned me.”
everything inside you went still.
“you listened to desire?”
“they know you. better than i do, clearly.”
the silence that followed was thunder.
you stared at him.
for a long moment, you didn’t speak. not because you had no words, but because the ones you needed… didn’t exist. not here. not in this ruin he’d just made of trust.
you finally spoke, quietly, like breaking glass:
“after all this… you still believe the worst of me.”
he said nothing.
you laughed once, softly. bitterly. “i gave you my soul. my faith. my centuries. i came back when the universe began to fall apart. i stood between you and death. and still—still—you think i came here to take what’s yours?”
his mouth pressed into a thin line. you could see the guilt crack through the pride. but it was too late.
something inside you had already split.
“i didn’t leave because i wanted power,” you said. “i left because i loved you too much to let us destroy each other. i loved you enough to give up everything. and you… you couldn’t even ask me before you accused me.”
you turned away before the tears reached your eyes.
his voice followed you like smoke. “i trusted you once.”
you didn’t look back.
“and now you never will again.”
you left the palace that night.
not the dreaming. not yet.
you didn’t run. you walked. across open fields of broken dreams and constellations that wept.
you found a place on the edge of the dreaming where nothing had been built yet, just soft hills of stardust and quiet sky.
you sat. and wept. silently.
not for him.
but for the part of you that still loved him anyway.
lucienne entered the throne room like a storm.
dream looked up, his usual calm crumbling the moment he saw her face.
“she’s gone,” she said. “not back to her realm. but she won’t return here.”
he stood.
“you told her,” lucienne continued. “you told her she came here to steal from you.”
his mouth opened. but there was no defense. only the echo of his own venom.
lucienne’s voice dropped.
“you let desire twist the one thing in this realm that ever made you human.”
dream turned away.
this time…
he did not follow after you.
not because he didn’t want to.
but because he no longer believed he deserved to.

Summary:
"You be the girl," Katsuki tells him.
"But... we're both boys," the dummy says like Katsuki doesn't have eyes.
"So? There has to be a girl. And I'm taller." Katsuki skates his hand over the shrubby mess of Twig's hair to his own cheek. "See?"
"Why do you get to be the boy just because you're tall? There are tall girls too." Twig looks around the room at all the poofy-skirted girls. "I don't want to be the girl."
"Someone has to be the girl, and you already look like one so it might as well be you, ya girly twig-boy."
Made this because I really wanted to do something with this song and what came to mind were these two OCs. I have a lot of lore on these two but that would be a long description. Maybe another time!
The basics: A semi-tragic estranged lovers tale but one of them doesn't even know they're estranged. They believe everything is fine while the other thinks that their lover hates them entirely.
OCs: Nimth (Th Devil) and just straight up God (Hands-Shadow, second shadow is Hansel)
summary: This is the sequel to New Kid, taking place in 1992, six years after you and Eddie graduate from Hawkins High. You’re the vocalist and songwriter for Death Dance Approximately, a punk band of femmes taking the scene by storm. Eddie and Corroded Coffin have blown up in the last few years, and are pretty much a household name. In the Spring, you’re given news of who you’re touring with this year: your ex boyfriend’s band. You haven’t seen Eddie since 1989, and seeing him in this environment has stirred up a lot of old feelings.

An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
This fic is inspired by the song The River and The Highway by Pam Tillis.
They’d been in love for so long - since they were merely children - but the universe had a cruel sense of humor, and in order to keep that love alive they were forced to stay away. Except for these rare instances where they were allowed just one gentle night together.
Yakko and Max have loved each other for years; ever since they first met as teenagers. But despite how much they love each other, being together always ends in heartbreak for the both of them, so they cherish the few rare instances where they just happen to cross paths.
Grown up, adult characters. Nothing explicit, just vague mentions. The only S word in this fic is Sad.
Her eyes slowly close as her body begins to let go into nothingness gently sinking. She feels herself slipping into a euphoric state of semi-unconsciousness. Releasing his fingers from her throat, he watches as her body slips further down. Quickly wrapping his arms gently around her body to catch her, lifting her up and thrusting her tightly against the wall. She gasps for a breath with a loud moan slipping from her mouth. Cupping her chin firmly in his hands, he leans into her, taking her soft lips into his, kissing her ravenously, giving her what she was afraid to ask for all along. She is overcome with immense blissful pleasures she would never have imagined without him. A beautiful moment of divine chaos.
