Joyous Children Ch 19
Chapter Summary: This ... this is how things can work, too, I suppose?

If you were to give Etsuko a voice, who would she sound like? Who does she sound like now, teenage years, and as an adult?
This, dear anon, is actually an interesting question. It’s interesting because for me, Etsuko doesn’t have one voice, but two: Elizabeth’s and Etsuko’s.
Elizabeth does the whole narrative, basically everything that’s not spoken in dialogue, and she sounds very much the same as I do. The reason for that is pretty simple - this is the voice of her first life, the voice that was already there before she could rearticulate herself in Narutoverse and, in a special sense, the manifestation of her mental age and her inner workings. It has roots in the concept of voice as the carrier of everything that makes a person, which in turn is based on the etymology of the word ‘person’: from latin ‘per-sona’, it’s directly translateable to ‘through sound’. Now, I’ll put a stop to this before I lose myself in explanations and nerdery about the ancient Roman/Greek art of rhetoric, but know this: Elizabeth has never gone away and never will. She can’t, because in a sense, she is the essence of everything that makes up Etsuko’s soul.
Now, what does that mean for your imagination as a reader? It means that you’re free to choose whoever you want to hear, since your interpretation of Elizabeth’s character directly influences the voice you’d imagine. If anyone is super interested, I could upload a sample of my voice I suppose, but that’s not the point. Do I make sense?
As for Etsuko: her voice is different from Elizabeth’s because her anatomic premises are different. For her current voice, I like to imagine Hanazawa Kana’s voice for Tsunemori Akane of the Psycho-Pass series. It’s going to deepen over her teenage years until it matures to something close to Jennifer Hale’s voice for female Shepard of the Mass Effect video games. You should check both out, these ladies have seriously awesome voices.
As always, my imagination is not meant to limit yours, so if you disagree with my choices, feel free to choose for yourselves. In the end, the story is only alive because you read it :-)
Every time I read your story, I keep forgetting that Etsuko is physically 5 years old. Then I realize that she practically beat/tied canon!Kakashi's graduation record. How much attention has she brought upon herself with this accomplishment? I gotta imagine a 5 year graduating would be talked about a lot. Kakashi was recognized as the best of his generation; would people start seeing Etsuko like this in due time?
Oh, she has attracted a lot of attention no problem. From a lot of places, too. Any more details and it would become spoilery, so I’ll leave it at that :-).Thanks for asking, anon!

Summary: I cannot move a single muscle as I stare at the piece of cloth hanging on the wall right across from my crib. A sheet with an all too familiar symbol stitched smack in the middle of it, its red and white coloring in a stark contrast against the dark blue surrounding it. I’m an Uchiha now. How is this even my life?
