Found this song, "Big Bad City" by Evalyn, and this part makes me think about their doomed friendship and doomed hope so hard.

Would fit even better for "Pretties", but since the adaptation is just the first book...

Ayumu had come across a certain human earlier in the course of the party and sneakily hit her with one of the spells that turned her into a hamster. It was hilarious watching her shrink down to size before a small creature appeared. It was kind of adorable and exactly the sort of creature Ayumu the fox would have eaten as a snack. But one could not eat the mayor of Vievecor City without consequences and so they settled for carrying her around in their hands or pockets lest she get lost. Or worse, trampled on by party guests

The time limit for the spell soon came to an end and Evalyn was soon returned to her regular and very human form. "You pack a mean set of hamster teeth, Rossi," the ancient spirit laughed as they watched her come to terms with being in a human body again.
