Auch ein blindes Huhn findet mal ein Korn. 🐓 – Do you know this german saying? It’s the equivalent to the english saying „Every dog has his day“ and means literally „Even a blind hend sometimes finds a grain of corn“ – and it’s my #inktober Day 24.

Bring down your one good ear and

hear me out, let me say,

if it’s not too late:

   Uch, it’s too late.

   They all said I was meant

to be some kind of childhood prodigy: what

happened? Did I grow up

too fast? Then I thought: maybe

I’m a late bloomer, but

I withered on the vine.

  But you, oh you,

you fulfilled your early

promise of mediocrity,

and, lucky you, the

expectations were not set too low.

  Still, there was that day, that one day,

that one sharp bright day, all

eyes were on you, you were

dense with improbable

possibilities. There you are, to

this day,

behind my eyes, the cold

blue of heaven behind your

curly-haired head; there you will

always be.

  If you could, once more, lean

down and lend me that good ear,

I’d say: I’m sorry. I’m sorry for

all the damage I caused, you

caused, without thinking, without caring.

But as you stood, I’d say, I’ll

admit, into that deaf unknowing ear:

I’m glad it wasn’t me.
