Major Music Review by RidgeFly | Skip Rage - Rowdy Babes & Cold Beer

I frequently turn to music to aid my creative process, drawing from different elements to spark an idea or provide some new energy to fuel my next move. I would always ask my peers to introduce me to new artists and it’s gotten to the point where I no longer have to ask anymore. It was through a mutual friend and engineer that I became aware of Skip Rage and the timing couldn’t have been more perfect.

Because of his solid online presence (SoundCloud, Twitter, Youtube and Instagram), I began to get familiar with Skip Rage’s sound and overall brand. Skip sports a his hair in a long perm, fuses street-wear with luxury brands, and has a musical style that is hard to define, but sophisticated in it's own way. The young and rad Queens-bred artist is hip hop, but with an edge in both sound and style.

This past April Skip Rage released his 'Rowdy Babes and Cold Beers' (Mixtape). The title alone prepared my mind and body for a party as I immediately started to reminisce on good times with friends, and crazy house-parties. Skip brings you into his world, creating a party environment in audio form. The entire project is extremely cohesive as it maintains a heavy bass, party vibe with Hello HVLO in-house producer, Slimmy Neutron, handling a majority of the production, and splashes of SpaceGhost Purrp (ASAP Rocky, Juicy J, Odd Future).

MAJOR TRACKS:

"GUNZOLLY" On the intro, Skip wastes no time displaying his New York pride and party nature as he states " I do this sh*t for the parties, mayne" and "We made rap. New York made rap...we can do anything we want. Any flow". Skip even shouts out incarcerated NY native Max B.

"STREETS OF RAGE" As the hook repeatedly chants "Rage", this high energy track will keep your head nodding and body moving. I compare it to action sports stadium music. If you want to experience a hip hop mosh pit just throw on this track.

"OUT OF LOVE" A transition from the party life, Skip focuses on the journey ahead, grinding in the studio and working on his craft. Assisted by fellow Hello HVLO affiliate, She's Ryan, Skip takes some time to reminisce about his pops, "Big Skip", and some advice he was given about the mainstream music market, dealing with success and looking after family.

"BONZAI" This cut has a "riding around, top-down, laid back summer vibe" as dreamy-synth production help Skip paint the picture. Skip Rage inhales and enjoys life as he states "everything is golden, from my teeth to the bottle that im holding". A peak into some of the luxuries he enjoys.
