"Of course, Enver's little rebound is that tart, my 'sister.' Maybe I shouldn't have ended things... but he'll come crawling back into my arms and my bed."
I am falling in love with the Orin/Durge dynamic where they got along really well in the beginning, but things changed when Gortash showed up.
Nemesis and Orin have this dynamic. They were such good sisters to each other it makes me weep.
Nemesis saw all of Orin's potential and adored her little shadow so much. She would do her makeup, gave her first dagger to her, braid her hair, let her pray with her, and all of that lovely Bhaalspawn sister stuff. She even all but promised Orin would be her last kill when she turned the world red with blood.
And Orin loved Nemesis for all of it. She was thrilled to be her second. Happy to be with her sister and just bathe in the perfection of the holy daughter.
Orin wasn't jealous of her or plotting against her, she loved her sister and wanted to be with her always.
But then one day, her sister came back from a mission, one where she was to claim a Banite's life, but Nemesis said she hadn't killed him and that Father had ordered she work with him and follow his plan to take Faerûn.
And that would have been fine if Nemesis hadn't begun excluding Orin from meetings with this Enver Gortash, excluding her from being a part of her plan and life.
In the beginning, Nemesis said it was to keep her safe, that crossing the Banite line was still risky. Orin believed that when Nemesis was still insulting the other Chosen in every other breath. But slowly began to doubt and grow angry when she heard Nemesis admire Gortash's genius.
Orin started to demand to be brought to meetings, that it was her duty as Nemesis' second to be there. Nemesis would deny and deny but was slowly worn down by Orin's "whining" and grudgingly agreed to bring her to the occasional meeting, ones where they weren't one on one with Gortash. Orin noticed this and how often Nemesis was still gone at "meetings".
This is where the rift began to widen as Nemesis got annoyed by Orin's proding, and Orin began to grow more and more upset at Nemesis' lack of presence and explaining of what was truly happening between her sister and the Banite.
Eventually, the day came when Nemesis just snapped. She had enough of Orin's complaining and demanding and revealed it all. Yes, she was in love with Enver Gortash. He was her equal in a way no other was, and when Father gave her the right, she would claim him as hers. He would be her final kill before she killed herself, creating a Bhaalist marriage bound between them, leaving them partnered in Bhaal bloody afterlife.
This shattered Orin. Not only was her perfect sister in love with a Bane dog. Not only did her sister see him as her equal. Not only did she intend to marry him. He was also taking Orin's rightful place as Nemesis' final death. And Nemesis had no shame when she finally admitted it. She didn't believe her love was wrong, she only hid it from Orin to keep it sacred and to herself.
This was the turning point, this is where jealousy began to swell, this is when Orin start plotting.
Not jealousy towards her sister, but rather Gortash.
Not plotting against Nemesis, but rather on how to save her from the Bane rot.
Even now, Orin still loved her sister.
She had tried to sway her, convince her. Hoped condeeming her in small ways would get her to see sense. But it hadn't, so full judgment had to be paid.
And so when it came to tadpoling her, Orin wept and wished her sister had listened to her. She hadn't wanted this. She hadn't wanted to replace Nemesis. She had only wanted to cleanse the perfect daughter before it was too late.
She wept again when Nemesis returned, knowing one would die before Bhaal and they would be sisters no longer.
Anyways, thanks for coming to me ramblings. Here's a sticker: 🌟
They could never make me hate this kiss The way Astys trying to be all big and intimidating and Tomies just in heaven lol Also how she just falls into him as well and trusts him to keep her upright kills me. The faces change the context of the kiss to being playful and it matches their dynamic more. For my little evil bastards A!A is always a match and I'm glad the expressions have allowed me to get into better rp because there's NO way Tomie would be even the least bit scared of him <3 He's technically not ascended yet of course but I'm sure as hell gonna use the kisses anyway lol
At least Evil Durge makes up for how sad killing all your favourite characters can be with just being fucking funny all the time. I just told Minthara I killed everyone at Last Light “because my butler told me to.” She was not impressed. So many of Durge’s dialogue options have no chill and the reactions to them are pure gold. “Kill the dead. Kill the killed dead. Kill the killed dead again and again.” Perfect, no notes — it even creeps out the edgy goth who hangs out in a cursed wasteland so he can torture ghosts! And Astarion’s unwavering support for my descent into depravity never fails to warm the heart.
Slay, Durge. Slay.
I need a minute to talk about how incredibly sincerely wholesome evil durge x minthara is
The other companions get a little self-righteous over the whole bloodlust thing, but minthara is just like. Ok. Good energy good enthusiasm but we gotta fine tune it a little.
When the other companions are not that excited about their slayer form (looking at you, lae’zel) minthara calls them divine
She is SO SUPPORTIVE of you claiming your birthright as bhaalspawn and then you go kill her abuser together.
She genuinely wants to establish a reign of terror with you.
The “this could be our last kiss” scene is really sweet (which I’m sure is not exclusive to evil durge but still).
She is cheering you on during the evil durge ending (I have not seen the new one yet so this is pre 7.0)
(Ok yes you could enthrall her at any time and yes you are beholden to bhaal but consider this: (1) my evil durge would NEVER and (2) they rule the world together and live happily ever after because I want them to.)
A painting study based on this reference that quickly turned into an obsessive character piece. I have some thoughts on my Durge Phonos; infodump below the cut 🧇
⚠️cw: blood, intestines
"As he joins your side, your mind dances with thoughts of a perfect, pretty corpse."
I just had an idea for a durge:
evil, yes, but also overly protective about their companions. has existential crises all the time because of it; one part of them wants to murder all and everything and everyone to please bhaal but the other only wants to murder a little bit and especially not their lovely party who make them laugh and feel loved and like home
