Yeah the title says it all. I made this a post on tiktok and figured I'd throw it on here with some additional thoughts. I'm an A/B/O purist idk what an enigma is and i dont want to know. I also realized while typing this out theres so few betas .
More suggestive than outright NSFW but there is discussion of heats and ruts and therefore sex under the cut.
Gaz is an alpha. He has a very warm and sort of sweet scent, think cinnamon rolls or apple pie. He's gentler than the typical view of alphas because his instincts are more protective than possessive. Between that and his scent being sweeter, he is very comforting to omegas. If they're dealing with omegas and need to calm them, he's sent out first.
He goes on rut suppressants but is actually pretty good about taking breaks from them so that he has a healthy rut cycle... most of the time. He has a tendency to get so consumed in whatever they're working on that he doesn't realize how long it's been since his last one.
Price is also an alpha, but in a different way. He sort of fits the commanding, dangerous alpha stereotype and uses it to his advantage. He can use the fact that he's an alpha to command omegas and order them around, and will if he needs to, but doesn't like doing it. He's definitely more intimidating than comforting. He smells like leather and old books.
Usually, with his age, his instincts would have dulled a bit, but he still has strong ones because he does not take his rut suppressants responsibly. His cycle is unregulated so his instincts are as strong as they were when he was still young.
Farah is an omega. Her scent is very nature-y, but less of the typical omega flower scent and more of a wood like scent. Sort of like cedarwood. She's very comfortable with her subgender, actually, and refuses to let it define her. Does not tolerate being underestimated or having her leadership questioned just because she's an omega.
As far as her heats go I am torn between "takes suppressants without having heats to let her cycles regulate because she simply does not have time" or "can't access suppressants until after barkov's death and just suffers through them and gets really good at being functional during them even though it causes her immense pain". Her nesting instincts are stronger than her mating instincts though, I think, especially once she finally gets close to someone.
Hadir is an alpha. His scent is sort of like firewood, and it has a tendency to get very overwhelming to others when he's angry or stressed. People get surprised by him being an alpha for a long time because of how easily he defers to his sister. It's a bit of a mix of instincts, though. He follows her lead but he also definitely feels an even stronger responsibility towards her, not only because he's older but because he's an alpha.
As far as ruts go, I have basically the same thoughts as Farah for those, but in his case I am a little bit on the side of no suppressants just suffering. It just feels like it fits.
Alex is a beta. Very clean, mild scent, like clean linen. Honestly, he is not very bothered about subgenders in general. Growing up people thought he'd be an alpha but he never really felt like one. He works very well with others, no matter what their secondary gender is.
To me, he can go through a faux-heat or faux-rut if particularly close to an alpha or omega (such as Farah, for example) but is generally relieved he doesn't have to deal with the messy aspects of being an alpha or an omega. He could handle it, it just makes things easier.
Laswell is an alpha. Scent is sweet and rich like chocolate. Before she presented, people thought she was a beta because she has a mix of instincts traditionally associated with alphas and omegas. She does have a sort of nurturing attitude at times, but is also commanding when she needs to be. She's very good at commanding omegas, of course, but she also can command alphas fairly well. If you get to that point though, you're already in trouble.
Actually responsible about suppressant use. Keeps a tracker, makes sure her cycles stay regulated. She also keeps track of her wife's cycles. Her instincts are starting to mellow out from age.
Nikolai is an omega. An herb-y scent, sort of like basil. Another one with weaker instincts because of age. He did resent being an omega when he was younger, but he's chilled out and doesn't care about it all that. He has a mild scent + weaker instincts + less intense/common heats, so he passes as a beta most of the time, though it isn't intentional.
As mentioned above as his instincts begin to weaken his heats are less intense and less common. He doesn't even take suppressants except in special situations. To me, he did have a mate at one point but doesn't anymore, and as a result nesting is a little weird for him.
Ghost is... complicated. He appears to be an alpha to everyone around him, due to his general… everything about him, and his scent glands are kind of fucked up. Between that and him taking suppressants strictly (again, not leaving time for his necessary cycles unless is away from work and completely alone, at which point he will suffer through them while they’re particularly bad due to how long it’s been) everyone believes him when he says he’s an alpha….. But he isn’t. He’s an omega. It takes him a long time to come to accept himself.
Soap is a beta. He has a very outdoorsy scent, like fresh cut grass and rain. At the time of him joining, he’s the ‘only’ non-alpha, since they don’t know about Ghost yet. He’s glad he doesn’t have to deal with heats or ruts, but he’s never really felt like a beta.
…Which is proven when something happens (in my opinion, it’s tied to when they find out about Ghost being an omega, but YMMV) and it turns out he’s an extremely late blooming alpha. Like, none of them even knew it could happen this late. Oops.
Alejandro is a beta. He has a particularly nice scent—mahogany with a little hint of cinnamon. He doesn’t mind that he’s a beta, but takes the standard pack leader role that alphas usually have. Everyone thinks he’s the alpha and Rudy’s the beta due to typical pack dynamics.
I think if he had to deal with a heat or a rut, he would end up killing somebody… so everyone say thank you to the universe that he’s a beta.
Rudy is an alpha. Smells like pine, sort of like a Christmas tree. As previously mentioned, people tend to think it’s the other way around, but this is just what works for them. They basically had the same dynamic when they were younger, it just… didn’t change once they presented. Very nonchalant about it, though I think he might have a few moments of insecurity.
Thank god, another one who uses suppressants responsibly… mostly. His ruts are particularly bad and always have been so he tends to slightly push out his necessary breaks from suppressants. Absolutely has to have help during his ruts.
Graves is an omega. He has a, surprisingly, very calming scent, like chamomile. He presented late (though not as much as Soap) and is not particularly happy with this turn of events. Not to the point of self hatred or anything, but he’s definitely internalized many stereotypes about omegas. He goes out of his way to go against them—he’d probably never start a family, not out of lack of desire but to prove a point.
Every time his heat comes around, he is CONVINCED he’s better than most omegas and can just power through it, so he doesn’t take suppressants. He is wrong every single time. Someone needs to get him to make a nest and chill out.
