in our titular highschool, six students, or rather three pairs of students, are the most well known by their teachers and peers, in various ways.
Roman and Virgil are the Sappy Couple.
they fought a lot in middle school but as soon as freshman year started they were all over each other, must have figured it out over summer break.
Roman always shows Virgil his affection with dramatic grand gestures, and Virgil, in his own way, is the same.
His gestures seem small and subtle to any outsiders, but to those who know him they understand how significant they are.
Simple things like holding hands in public, coming to watch his games, and just calling him his boyfriend when talking to other people, these are all things that mean the world to Roman.
Patton and Darcy are the Power Couple.
These two still haven't decided whether they're dating each other or are bitter rivals, it would seem.
One thing's for sure though, the whole school is very invested in the drama.
Darcy is student body president and main mean bitch of the school, Patton is cheer captain and sunshine personified.
Naturally, they don't get along but they do work amazingly well together when they manage to put their many differences aside.
They'd probably be dating already if they just talked to each other about how they feel, but alas, they are both gay disasters.
Now when you first see them, you wouldn't be wrong to call them an odd couple.
Because make no mistake, how exactly Remus and Logan got together is a damn mystery.
However, that is not the title they have been given.
Remus and Logan are the Scary Couple.
Simply put, this is a union that no one thinks should work, no one understands how it works, and the fact that it miraculously does, alone can make people feel dread.
But that's not why they're scary together, oh no.
Remus was always a dirty punk with an intimidation factor that worked on pretty much everyone.
Meanwhile Logan is your typical outcast nerd, sure, but he's fiercely stubborn, quick witted, vindictively cunning, and seems so unbothered by the physical violence bullies try to enact on him that most of them just stopped.
It's actually kinda creepy that he'll take a beating, get up and roll his eyes and ask "is that all? Got it out of your system, did that heal your fragile little ego?"
He really does not seem to have any fucks to give, and bullies at one point have started being genuinely creedped out by his apathetic demeanor.
So when the punk and the nerd started having arguments and debates, everyone was sure it was gonna end in bloody murder.
The first student to have spotted Remus pressing Logan against his locker as they make out was so shocked he dropped the phone he was using to record their now abandoned argument.
Suffice to say, that video was all over the school by the next day, but if you think the couple were embarrassed or even mad, you'd be wrong.
Now everytime one of them gets insulted, they better be prepared for the other.
These two are dubbed the scary couple because what they're capable of alone is nothing when compared to what they can do together.
And they were already pretty weird and creepy to begin with, so now they're just a nightmare.
The strangest thing, however, is that these six students have always been connected.
Patton and Roman are cheer captain and star athlete, so naturally they've been hanging out for a while.
Logan is captain of the debate team which Darcy is on, and they have a much friendlier and less emotionally charged rivalry.
Remus and Virgil pretty much hang out all the time, being punk and emo respectively in a school that's obsessed with spirit week and the sports teams, they really don't have a lot of other friends besides each other.
But also Roman and Remus are twins and they sign up for the after school play every year, despite not wanting to do anything else at school together.
Virgil and Deceit used to date in middle school, and although one could argue it was a middle school relationship so it didn't count, one would be wrong in this particular situation.
Their relationship was bad for both of them and they cut ties after it, as much as they could living in a small town, going to the same school and having four mutual friends.
Patton and Logan have been neighbors since forever and friends too, if you asked Patton anyway.
Logan, for all his "I don't do friendship" act, always had a soft spot for Patton and probably wouldn't have learned to fight back and stand up for himself if it weren't for his desire to protect Patton when they were kids.
He supposes old habits die hard though, cuz he'll still burn any asshole who dares make a biggoted or nasty comment about Patton.
Patton and Virgil take art class together and Patton was the one who encouraged Virgil to do set design for the drama club, which lead to him becoming a techie and spending more time with Roman.
Through Drama club Virgil and Roman got to know each other beyond their highschool personas that they wear to survive.
Darcy and Remus met, believe it or not, in detention.
Remus was in for his usual fuckery, slashing the tires of some asshole teacher's car, but Darcy hadn't done anything wrong! ...today.
He was trying to figure out how the principal knew he'd been cheating in the last four tests when he realized.
That cheerful little brat sat behind him in that class.
"so what are you in for?" Remus asked half jokingly.
"goody two shoes snitched on me for cheating in a math test."
"seriously? Aren't you like super smart and popular? You pretty much avoid consequences daily, right? How'd he manage to screw you over like this?"
"I don't know, and I don't like it..."
"want me to kill him for you?"
"...well... No, I'm sure. Thanks but no thanks. I'll let you know if someone else needs to be dealt with though, there are quite a few assholes in this school that still haven't learned not to cross me."
"Neat! btw who is this mysterious goody two shoes anyway?"
"Patton Blythe, the universe's punishment to me, personally."
"oh you mean the guy that totally has a crush on you?"
"what? What are you taking about? Who's your source for this ridiculous notion?"
"my best friend who goes to art class with him, my brother who's his best friend, my own two eyes, the guy himself, I can go on if you'd like!"
"huh. So, sunshine has a crush on me? Perhaps I can use that to my advantage..."
