GLOBAL EXAMINATION - Jiuhuo, 2
@mattrett Madonna's been going bald for 34 years, guys — at left = "Star" (1990), at right = "Examiner" (2024)
Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith. Prove yourselves. Do you not know yourselves that Christ is in you, unless you are lost?
2 Corinthians 13:5
[Examiner:] From Danger Days, musically what is your favorite song, and lyrically what is your favorite song and why? [Ray:] That is a tough one because I have a lot of favorites. “Summertime” musically is great because it is a lot lighter than anything we have ever done before. It is breezy. That song in particular is called “Summertime” because it is about a summer one of us had but also you can picture driving during the summer with the windows rolled down. It has a perfect tempo for that.
“S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W” I feel is our stab at Beatle-esque kind of slow vocals. It has an acoustic guitar, there is a wild solo in there, and a weird arraignment that keeps growing and growing. Musically, I have a lot of favorites, so that is a tough one.
Lyrically, it would definitely be “Sing.” Gerard is an incredible lyricist, and he is aware of things that I think he is not even aware of. He is just a really smart guy that to me is years ahead of what is going on in the world, and the world always seems to catch up to things he writes about. “Sing” is a perfect example of that. Think about what is going on in the world, and read those lyrics. It is really crazy.
— Ray Toro in an interview with Examiner (2011)
Week 249, Day 1741.
Okay, so, update on my life...
I submitted my corrections on Monday!!! What a strange feeling that was... I’ve had a niggling sense of elation ever since, but I’m not allowing myself to fall into that feeling completely because I’m still not quite done as I’m yet to hear back from my examiner on whether I’m allowed to move on with my life or not. But, I did it, I got over that last hurdle as best I could, now it’s just a waiting game. Whatever will be will be. 🎉
I celebrated with sushi, a bottle of rose, and Studio Ghibli films. Happiest self-care evening for a long time. I did have to sell a gold chain (literally) to be able to afford the sushi and wine, but that somehow made it even more rewarding. Post-funding-ending-but-still-in-the-process-of-finishing-the-PhD life is not easy, financially or mentally. However, with moving into a full time role in my company and with my corrections being submitted hopefully life will get a little less strenuous when it comes to finances and mental health. 💸
Whilst I await the examiners verdict, I intend to rest as best I can. I mean, yesterday was my first PhD-free Saturday since 2017, I am not taking it for granted. Despite having a full time job, conferences, and paper writing, right now, it feels like nothing could ever be as challenging as doing a PhD. 🌿
On that note, I need to go put together a conference presentation.
Thank you for being on this journey with me guys. I’ll check in soon. ❤

Just a fun thought. But imagine the examiners found Alina as a child but when she discovers where they are taking her, she manages to escape and someone has to draw the short straw and explain to THE BIG BAD DARKLING whose been searching for CENTURIES for a sun Summoner... yeah... we sorta lost her... our bad...
