✨ A Story of Exile, Identity, and Asexual Rebellion: Why I Write ✨
In my past creative chapters, I published under other pen names. Today, as an independent queer author and activist in exile, I write under my chosen name - Xeni Davyd.
This is the story of my evolution, my survival, and my bilingual alternative 19th-century novel, "The Valdai Romance".
For years, I lived under the suffocating weight of state-enforced censorship and societal pressure in the Russian Federation, forced into a mold that was never mine. Moving away was only the first step. In fact, it took me more than 7 years of living outside of Russia, slowly healing and deprogramming from that environment, to finally clear the fog and fully discover my true identity. Free from the endless noise and social brainwashing of what I "owed" to a traditionalist state, I was finally able to embrace who I truly am:
🔗 I am a masculine non-binary individual. I am a man, not the woman they desperately tried to force me to be.
Stepping into my true identity went hand in hand with embracing my reality as a queer asexual person. In a world obsessed with hyper-sexuality, being an asexual man is often met with dismissal or erasure. But I refuse to be invisible. My writing is my ultimate form of rebellion and survival.
Right now, my situation is incredibly fragile. I am displaced, financially vulnerable, and living in deep isolation. Yet, through this frost, I chose to create warmth.
My novel, "The Valdai Romance", explores the profound, electric intensity of asexual romantic love - proving that passion can burn significantly hotter without sex. It follows the slow-burn psychological connection between Virgil Carter, an alien engineer trapped in his own biological coldness, and Januar Walday, a lonely romantic dreaming of supersensual closeness.
Through this bilingual (Russian/English) canon, my mission is to reclaim the Russian language for queer narratives that are currently being brutally suppressed, bridging them with global queer experiences.
